TMax and Softail
I have an 06 Fatboy without any oxygen sensors in the exhaust, V&H Bigshots, do I have to get a new exhaust or can I just drill a hole and install some kinda keeper?
I just installed mine on an 06, so my biggest chore was routing the oxygen sensors. Programming the TMAX isn't too bad. I thought the directions were a bit confusing, so I called their tech support line and they walked me through it. Oh, and the only real complaint is that there isn't much clearance for bolting down the unit. I ended up using three bolts instead of four. but it's on there pretty well.

If you want to look over the instructions before the install here they are on .pdf.
I got the front O2 sensor just fine. I cannot get ANY tool between the real cylinder fins and the frame brace to get the rear sensor out!
ARGH!! I have a friend on the way and we will try a crows foot socket from the right side of the bike. If this does not work, it looks like I may have to take the rear exhaust tube off and replace the sensor that way. What all is involved with this???!@(#*$_??
Oh, the audible alarm module does NOT like the battery to be disconnected!! LOL
Oh, and another, I was able to get 3 of the 4 ECM bolts to come loose with no issues...
There is alwaysONE f'in one that will not cooperate!!
OK, UNCLE!!

If not getting the small nuts off of the exhaust port can be difficult but getting them back on even worse. I ended up using a screw driver and taped the nut to it to get it started. Getting it off I used a swivel socket. They say use new crush washers but I reused mine and no leaks.
Removing the guards off the exhaust gives a socket more room to get to the nuts.
While this way seems more time consuming, to me it is easier knowing the 02 sensors are on all the way.
Good luck.
On a Springer Classic, remove the left side of the exhaust.... it is a simple slip joint on the crossovers.... be cautious of the little 'o' ring seal that will come off on the side you are removing.... you can then loosen the seat post where the ignition module is mounted. This will free up enough room to allow a o2 sensor tool in (with a LOOOONG extension)....
other than the tight quarters for the tool on the rear cylinder, the process is very easy, and would have taken about 2 hours of very cautious, read the manual, then re-read... study the pictures, etc. time.
I will let you know more as time goes by!
Thanks to everyone for their help and encouragement.
I've got one coming for my custom also. It would seem that giving yourself 8 hours of install as opposed to 1 should keep me from going bullistic.

hey batbuds, does your bike has the oem security system? if so, did you have to do a learning procedure for the security module?
RideSafe!
I believe I would suggest removing the security module until the initialization is complete and the base load done... THEN reinstall the security module.... just to keep the neighbors and ears happy!
I will do my run ups and checks in the AM and let this thread know how that goes.
Oh, if you install one of these guys, expect smoke at the O2 sensors until the coating and anti-seize burns off! LOL.... that was an initial shock until I realized what was happening! LOL
Once it warms up a bit more outside, I will do some more run-ups....
