My 1996 fxstc pops real bad. i have heard popping on decel is somewhat normal on my bike, but even when i accelerate it pops and coughs. all i have done to the bike is remove the mufflers and taken off the air cleaner. i've been told i need to rejet the carb. is this really going to correct this. i do notice it more with my wife on the back, and she weighs about 500lbs, does that make a differance?

If not, removing the air filter is not only causing a lot more air in it is letting all the dirt in also.
Put it back on.
Removing the mufflers is hurting the performance more than helping, put it back on.
