Changing to apes was the best thing I ever dod to the bike - I'll never go back to any other bars - handles the curves significantly better and much more comfortable.[sm=shades.gif]
93 springer with 18" 1 1/4" apes, internal wired, steel cables......about 600 bucks. soooo well worth it. 7 1/2" rizers with 2' pull back on rubber mount. Cant wait to ride it again every time I have to put it away. Been thinking about putting them on my 99 sportster even if they are only a 1" bar for cheap. AMEN TO THE ABOVE
I had 16 and wasnt happy, so I went for 18's and they look better. I went on a 400-mile ride and felt a little tired around my shoulders, but it wasnt that bad. SO.....go for it!!!!!
I came from drag bars to apes. It felt a little weird at first but now I love it. Its seems the universal thing is once you get apes you will usually upgrade to a taller version. I went with 12.5 with 2 inch risers. I'll probably change them out in the next few weeks for a 14 or 16. I will also probably go with a 1" instead of the chubby versions that i'm using now. Plus they look bad ***. I push my forward bc I don't like leaning back. Post Some pics when your done!! The thing I can't answer is if you should do it yourself or pay someone. I paid someone to do it and it seemed like a lot of work, taking the tank and etc off. I'll probably do it myself this next time just to save somedough.
My only complaint was some movement during the first rain storm. I torqued them down more and it was all gravy.
