I got in the habit of making her get off and meeting me at the end of a "high" bump area.
I'll bet your daughterloved you for that! LMAO!
Actually she did...hitting frame not only sounds bad but can hurt! Mostly it was only in parking lots and such where I couldn't get around very high speed bumps.

It happened when we went on a ladies only ride to a park...no way around the speed bumps....she had to walk to the park gate . I was one of only 2 bikes that had a passenger.

I recomend, like others have, you rent them each - you'll be able to get the best feel for what you are most comfortable on.

Do you like all the chrome spots? They aren't my thing, so the heritage was out.
Neither will have you leaning over because there are risers on the deluxe that pull the bars back.

The spotlights on a deluxe look nicer to me than those on a heritage.
The deluxe windshield looks cooler to me.
The paint scheme on a deluxe is cooler as well.
That said, I own a windshield, bags, backrest, tourpak, etc... that added up to a lot more than getting some of it included.
I like the front fender and the tombstone tailight, the retro speedo, bullet signals better on the deluxe.

Ride, they will be nearly the same. The deluxe is barely lowered. I weigh a lot. I almost never bottom out except speed bumps or potholes, especially now with the heavy weight fork oil.

Oya, don't forget the tank medallion.

I'm a bit biased as you can see, but just pointing out things you may have overlooked.

for me, it was a matter of value...and the Heritage won out over everything else i was looking at, including the Deluxe. at 5'6" with a29" inseam, seat height wasn't a problem to begin with and i bought boots with a good heel to give me some knee bend and extra leverage. i do like the Deluxe styling (especially the tank badge) but the Heritage has that classic "retro" look that i like.the handlebars on the Heritage work better for me, too. no regrets here for getting the Heritage...

I rented first (I was split between the RK Classic & Heritage) - did three hours back to back on each bike and opted for the Heritage. I'm vertically challenged as well and have no problems (with Harley boots) flat footing the ground. I like that I could spend money on other items besides the windshield, bags and back rest. I also pulled back the bar position (stock bars are higher I believe than the Deluxe) to make the reach closer.

The Heritage would be best bang for buck. The Deluxe doesnt have anything the Heritage doesnt have.Strip down the Heritage and you have a Deluxe look-a-like.

With the Heritage you get bags, screen, sissy bar which are easily removed. If you dont like the seat or bars on the Heritage they can be changed.Thats what i did.Its amazing how handy those bags and the screen are when you are on a decent trip. However i do know that some dont like the studded look of the Heritage.

Either way you are getting a great bike.FWIW i love the Deluxe, especially in the 2 tone coloursbut i think the Heritage is a better buy.As far as hiring one goes i think they would both ride the same, other than the seat and bar configuration but lots of people change them anyway. For me the Heritage is more versatile. You can dress it up with all the fruit or strip it down for bar-hopping,plus i just always wanted a Heritage so the decision was an easy one.

Good luck with your decision, cant go wrong with either.

Well, I am not going to be of much help...

I wanted a Harley for years but didn't feel comfortable on anything until the Deluxe came out. I almost pulled the trigger on a Fatboy, but I had a nagging feeling about the reach. I am also 5'6" with 30" inseam. I bought the Deluxe, added a windshield and bags and have not regretted it at all. The bike looks great with or without the extras. It literally takes seconds to remove the windshield (which I could not ride without in the cold weather). The Heritage is cool, but not as cool as the Deluxe (to me). I think you're looking in the right direction with the Softails because they do sit lower. I've heard it explained that you sit "in" a Softail and "on" the other bikes. The best advice has been given, go ride both and see what you think. Either way, you'll end up with a great bike.

I vote for a Heritage. You can dress them up or dress them down(neeked). Get some quick detach hardware for the bags & back rest and you can go solo or double up. Speaking of doubling up- the Deluxe pillion seat is for quick trips only unless your ladyis skinny as a rail. The Heritage comes with wide pillion and a back rest. My wife didn't much like riding with me on my other bikes until I got this one with a back rest.
I also suspect the Deluxe is an inch lower than the Heritage because of a lack of padding in the seat. Damn they're hard.
That said, I think the Deluxe is the prettiest scoot that Harley makes.
