Poorboy,
if I had known you were going to pull the pipes off I would have offered to come out and give you a hand. I figured it would have been a 10 minute in and out for the baffles. If you feel you should need to redo it let me know and I will certainly lend a hand. Don't worry about it being too quiet. Mine got a lot louder after about a week. The sound went from a quiet low rumble (like you heard) to a louder much more pronounced sound, probably louder than my rush slipons were. I like them much better now than I did when I put them on. I think you will too.

I installed the QB's in my big shot longs about a month ago, what a pain in the !#$%. I slipped them in and took it for a quick test ride before putting the heat shilds back on and decided it was a little to quiet. Pulled them back out and took all the fiberglass off thinking it would burn off after a few thousand miles anyway. Put it all back together including the heat shields and..........don't really care for the sound. Problem is, I cannot bear to tear the whole mess apart again so I'm dealing with it. I'd like tothink V&H could make the baffles more accessible? Why so dam difficult? Remove the tip, remove a set screw, pull them out and replace them? Why require the whole dam exhaust to be removed? The sound of my SE 16g double barrels with the thunder monster baffles was the best sounding exhaust by far. I will probably have to pull mine apart and mod again!

I went thru the same pain changing out the baffle in my BSS. So I drilled a hole in the heat shield so I can change the baffles without removing the heatshields.

Great idea! No problem drilling through the chrome heat shield? I am either going to buy another set of thunder monsters or customize one of the sets that I have.

Am I missing something? I have V&H BSS and I did mine on the ground in the garage....puled off the end caps...pulled out the stock baffles with needle nose plyers....cleaned inside pipes....slid in the quiet baffles(a little tricky lining up holes) and replaced end caps. I don't think it took 30 minutes. Is there clearance difference in softtail models?
