Greetings all,,,
Technical question that may have been answered before somewhere but I couldn't find it....Want an oil cooler installed on a softail standard (07) Stealers want to charge me anywhere from $175-250 (2.5 to 3 hours) for what seems to be a bolt-on item (1 hour at best?). Could do it myself but I want to avoid creating any warrantly issuesand justnot real interested in paying the stealer that much..Is it that labor intensive??
Comments please
If your at all familiar with common hand tools its a real no brainer install.
I would however suggest you wait till the next oil change to do the job.
Pulling off the filter to install the fitting for the cooler is going to make the same mess changing oil would, so why make the same mess twice.
Putting it on then will only add about 30minutes(maybe 45 if your slow) to the normal oil change time. If you have the chrome cover for it, its going to take a bunch of extra time for the sealant to set up.
Kind of what I thought,,,sounds like the stealer is using the book rate instead of actual time,,,didn't think there was a book rate for an oil cooler!?
Just a note, in the area where the hose clamps go, put a short piece of heat shrink tube. That will keep the hose clamp from cutting into the oil hose. Don
