I'm going to be installing my Ultra Cool oil cooler this weekend. How much oil can I expect to lose during the install? I don't plan on doing an oil change since I've only got about 1,000 miles on this oil.
why not wait till you need to change the oil ? you have to remove the filter for one. I did anyway. why would you put the filter back on ? wouldn't it just be easyer to wait or just dump the oil ? there is really no telling how much oil you will lose what ever is in the filter I'm gonna say... I didn't half a$$ it
oh don't get all butt hurt because you don't ride your bike enough to change oil more then once a year. it will be ok. its your bike do what you want, you have rode it this long without it on there another month or 2 wont hurt you one bit. and to insult someones intelligence. is just silly and childish. if you don't like the comments you get then don't ask questions like that. are you a chemist btw how do you check oil to know its still good ? maybe I could check mine so I don't have to change it.. and I'm a special kinda stupid lol
Your oil loss will be minimal, actually no more than you would lose by just replacing the oil filter. Of course you'll need enough oil to fill the cooler once installed. Good Luck with the project.

Thanks. I was thinking up to a quart by the time I filled the oil cooler back up.
I did mine it was about a half quart I want to remember. Maybe less. I used the same filter. If you want to make sure it don't leak use high tack spray on the paper gasket and aviation permatex on the rubber & let it dry a day before starting. My fan finally came on for the first time yesterday took riding 500 miles then in super slow city traffic, was glad to see that the fans work. This 88 is so cool now with oil & head cooler. Consistent oil pressure is good to have to make the twin purr.
