Here is what you need. P/N 50409-04 from Harley davidson, they are extended rider floorboard pans that give you 2 extra inches for 79 bucks. Check out this thread. Also as stated get the Harley goodies extentions too.

This will help alot, for alot less then forward controls with IMHO more comfort.

Edit: You could also PM aviator, after reading my write up, he did the same thing to his bike and seems to be very happy with it.

thanks to sonar_chris, this is what I did to my '08 FatBoy for more leg room.
HD Extended Floorboards pn50409-04
Harleygoodies Floorboard Extension Kit(HDF sponsor)
Kuryakyn Extended Reach Girder Shift Lever pn1026
Kuryakyn E-Z Brake Pedal pn9039
I ordered the extended floorboards, gear shift lever and the E-Z brake from my dealer. the extension kit I ordered from Harleygoodies.
total cost was about $400, and took about an hour to install/swap.
here are some photos, I apologize for the quality, they were shotin the garage.

Yup, I got the harleygoodies too, simple install and major improvement. As soon as I put them on; I wished I'd had them from the beginning.

Another vote for Harley Goodies. Just put them on my Fatboy. Good written directions and easy to install. When I first read about them didn't think they would make that much difference. Boy,was I wrong. A big difference for a small price.
