If I pull the cam cover to check the tensioners and they look like they need to be changed, how envolved is it?
Is this something I can do or do you need jigs and stuff. Also, is it just as simple as pulling the plate, swapping the tensioners and popping the plate back in? Does anything need to be retimed?
Hope some can help as I really want to avoid the 90 mile round trip and expense to the dealer.
You will need a way to relieve the spring tension on the shoes. A tool is available from JIMS. Best to bite the bullet and go to gear drives, but then you need adjustable pushrods (if you dont pull the rocker covers) Evo lifter block alignment tool for the oil pump, (You'll need that to just do the shoes), and a fixture for pressing the cams into the cam plate. Yeahandmake surethe timing marks are aligned.
