Default 2001 NightTrain VS. 2008 NightTrain

Hey guys...

I am getting a NightTrain for sure...I was sold on a 2008, but I am able to get a wicked deal on a 2001 NightTrain US bike for about half the price of new plus it has some mods on it...

I know the 08 if a FI with a 200MM tireand 6 speed tranny, but if you were in my shoes, which one would you take and whY?

I was told that the Carburator model has better throttle response and can make more noise...

Opinions please....

I have an older NT. You can't beat them. The only thing I wish I had was a 6 speed sometimes. Plus you get that fat rear tire on the new one. That is cool but you can't see it while you're riding. The guy that owned my NT bought a new one and has tried to buy mine back twice now. He doesn't like the 96 engine.

Mine hasa carburetor and I like it that way.

That is good feedback so far...

I have just always had the feeling that you can make the Carbs sputter a little more obviously than Fuel Injection...

Here's my take...

I like to compare the two this way. Think ofthem liketwo Corvettes. You've got a 1968 and an '08. Both are awesome cars and youcan't make a bad choice. It comes down to what youwant your hot rod to be. On the one hand you have a carbed5 speedand on the other you have a fuel injected 6 speed. One's gonna hickup and take some time to warm up, the other is going to fire right up and run smooooth. One is going to have the latest and greatest technology, and the other will havedated technology. One will have a firmer -smoother ride, and the other onemight feel "dated"in comparison. Both willget you from point A to point B.It comes down tohowyou want to get to point B.

If it were me, I'd take the older one. I have a 2000 and have no thoughts of giving it up. I love my bike! I'm happythat it's a carb'd bike. I'm happy withthe 140 rear tire. I'm happy with a 5 speed. I'm happy that it takes some time to warm up, because it gives me a chance to step back and look at it. And I'm evenhappy with the occassional hic-cup! To me, that's what aHarley should be like. Harley's should be a little rough around the edges. Those rough edges give them character! JMHO...

And, as stated above you can always take the money you save and put it towards mods.Buy the older model and then mod the ***** out of it!

Either way, you'll get a great bike no matter which year you choose. Like I said, you really can't go wrong here.

Good Luck,

Jim

Just the fact that I could get the carbed engine would be all I'd need for the decision. I'd go for the 01.

Nothing wrong with fuel injection or the giant rear tire, but I prefer the carb and the skinnier rear tire.

Cheers!

I have a carbed 04 Fatty and I've almost traded it on an injected Street Glide many times. I cant seem to part with it and I'm currently giving it a "makeover". To me, a Harley should have a carb and be a little tempermental. I've decided to never give it up and just save up for the Street Glide in addition to my current bike. If I were you, I'd buy the 01 and mod it to your taste. You'll be much happier in the long run.

I have a 99', would not and won't sell or trade. Tricked out and fast, 96" S&S pushing 105hp and 108lbs of torque. Slammed to the ground, 3". It takes a while to warm up, but man is it fun.

Take the 01.

I would have to agree with everyone here, it's about character anyone can walk in and buy a new NT. So for my 05 (carbed) NT is enough for me. Narrow tire, five speed, choke and a whole lotta
soul.

The thing with buying aused bike is you never know how they were treated before you got it. I will not disagree that I wish I had a carb so I could tune it without a damn computer attached to it oh well, I like that I know everything about my bike because it was mine from day 1.
