Isn't the Standard the new name for the custom other than the custom may have had more chrome on it right off the line? By the way, I hate that they call it the Standard. Makes it sound so dull. Once you get a lot of do-dads and chrome on it, it quits looking like "Standard". Then it turns into more of a custom don't it? When I talk to other people about there scoots, hey what do you ride, I've got a fatbay, or I've got a Road King, Or a Duece, then they ask me and I am almost embarassed to say the name Standard. I love the bike anyway, just wish Harley could have been a little more creative on the name choice.

The custom had the black engine too, which is why I chose the night train, now I just have to chrome everything to get the "custom" look.

The Softail Standard is a blank canvas to start customizing from.

The softail custom FXSTC had the black and chrome motor and a solid disc rear wheel (like the fatboy), a wide glide front end, mini apes a sissy bar with pad and a button tuck seat and chrome out the ying yang. It was replaced in the Harley lineup by the duece in 2000.

Had to get pics from home first. Here's my 98 waiting for spring in the living room.
