Logan,so you were able to install the 180 with absolutely no mods at all? Also I see you are running a different fender than the stock so did you have the 180 on along with the stock fender or just this one? Just curious because there may be some differences in the clearance between the 2 fenders..Thanks !!!
Avon 187mm on an 18 x 5.5 wheel. A little shaving
on the inside of the caliper and a thinnerspacer that
came with the wheel from RCcomponents. Bringing
the wheel a little closer to the belt. I have about 1/16
strong (close to 1/8)between the tire and belt right now.
Ok, Now I am really confused..I go today to the dealer to order me a new SE 180 and they guy tells me that it will not fit without mods..H/D offers a wide tire kit for softails to work with a 180..I saw this in the H/D catalog so this makes me think for some reason it wont work..I guess I'm wondering why on earth would they offer a 180 wide tire kit if there isnt any mods that need to be done to get the 180 to fit??? Please help !!!
That's the same crap the dealer in Palm Beach, FL was tellin' me. I kept telling them that the dealer in Greenville, SC (I was going to school in Florida, but South Carolina was home) told me it would work without the wide tire kit, and that others have been doing it on their Deuces. The dealer in Palm Beach wouldn't do the work for me without the kit. When I brought my bike back up to South Carolina, I had the dealer install a Screamin' Eagle 180 with no mods at all on my Deuce. You don't need the wide tire kit.

Just got offf the phone with the dealer and YEP, they just told me that wouldn't do the work b/c if Harley sold a wide tire kit for the 180 then that's what should be done and they didnt want to be responsible if something happened after the install..So did you end up going with the SE 180 like alot of others? Just want to make sure the 180 I go with will work is all. I know some have said all the 180 tires arent quite the same width depending on the brand..Thanks alot

Yep. I got the Screamin' Eagle 180 up at the dealer, and they installed it for me.
I've got an 18" x 5.5" rim on my Deuce with a 180. I purchased the rim from HogPro. Fit right on, bolted right in to the stock Deuce. No mods required.
I use Metzeler ME880's.
The only thing I noticed, and can't remember from when the bike was stock - when I needed to get a wrench in under the fender to install my Ghost Brackets, I couldn't get my hands or tools to fit. The clearance is really tight. I had to bend my arm in many ways to finally get those miserable bast**d bolts & nuts undone under there.
Going to go ahead and order the 180 this week..I have to say I am nervous about the fitment and keeping my fingers crossed that it will work out with no problems..I think I will go with the SE 180 since that seems to be the one most are saying to use..Thanks alot guys!

Your making the right decision. You want a little peace
of mind. Go to your bike right now and measure the
distance between the belt and tire. Then measure the
distance between the caliper and the tire. You'll see
there's plenty of room for the SE 180. Then when it's
all said and done, go back to the dealer and put it in
his face.......
