Ya Ya Ya,

I've heard it all before. Especially from riders that live in the south.
But, I had sun to burn and miles to beat so I could ride in the warmer south in February.

Truth be said, in February, you can't even get up my steep icy driveway with a bike and ridin down it is even more imposible.

Four wheel drive in the truck to get up to some paved roads and they're covered with snow, ice and puddles of slush mixed with road salt. That salt gets into every crack and cranny on any vehicle. Bikes are hardest to get all that salt out.

So my questions to you are;
Why would you not trailer a touring biketo get pastthose ridding and road conditions?
Did you miss the picture with all the snow I posted above?

If you say you still ride in SC when the ugly face of Old Man Winter blows your way.
I wonder if you were one of the hundreds of vehicles I see off the road as I pull my clean trailered touring bike safely by thehundreds ofmotorists that drive beyond their snowy driving knowledge and abilities. I've seen the snow on Rte 77 at Rock Hilland south in February and It mostly was a parking lot full confussed drivers. Come to think of it I didn't see any bikes. Except those on trailers.

Ride safe

Who trailers a touring bike????

Hi,

As you can see by the pic below, I have trailered my bike. I trailer it to Daytona, because as you can see in the pic, there's just to much snow to deal with in February for a 1500 mile trip south from NH.

Far as the security, I never evenarm it while she's in my own garage and I don'r engage it for the ride in a trailer either.

Far as the battery goes, I don't disconnect it unless a repair calls for it. Even then sometimes I disregard the step to disconnect the batt.

good luck with your move

Finaly leaving leaving SO.CAL. for good! What to do? Trailering my scoot up to ABQ. NM, its about 750 miles and dont want to be out of juice at the end of my trip; ShouldI just disconect the battery or deactivate the security system? If I'm to deactivate the the security system, how's that done? I have a 07 Deluxe with the keyless fob. Any suggestions would be great!

If I was traveling any where now and wanted to take the bike The only way I could take it was in a trailer. We have 8 inches of snow on the ground and 4-6 more due by sat. Before you slam me I didn't own a car for 3 years when I lived out west and rode everyday rain or shine to get to work or anywhere else for that matter. I had to use 4wd just to get out of my driveway today.

Hi Sarge,

I hear ya, as you can see by my post above, I'm in the same boat as you.
Don't worry about being slamed. I've tried many times to explain and it seems to me it's like beating a dead horse.

Pretty much sums it up with the old saying;
"If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand."

On those rare occasions when I sit on my bike andpose for a photo shoot,
I usually life my kick stand.

PS Now that's funny!!
mplechachanged his sig picture of him posing on his upright bike with the kickstand down.
Must of hit a nerve or two

Who trailers a touring bike????
A bunch of people from So Cal do, you see, going to Vegas from San Diego for Las Vegas bike fest, I saw no less than 10 baggers on trailers going to and from Vegas, and trust me, these were not show bikes, and all had California plates. But hey to each there own.

Actually I think you can auto arm the system. I helped a friend program his '03 RK to do it. Check your manual.

Hi Commander,

Wow, just goes to show how fast the HD technology is going.
My bike is an '03 and it doesn't have auto armsecurity.
I didn't even know they had that feature now.
Mine requires me to make the choice to arm.
I guess I better wake up. lol

Chappy,
I think he is saying his bike is set to auto arm the security.

That is good information about bypassing the security. I just bought a trailer and both my wife's bike and my bike are set to auto arm. I did not even think about by passing it.

Thanks,

Mark

My two sons and I headed to Daytona bike week last March from Chicago. They wanted to ride and not be caught with a trailer. It started snowing in Indiana. 40 mph side winds and blinding snow. Boy did they enjoy getting into my quad cab. They never said a word about their bikes in the trailer.

There are just time when trailering is a must. Like leaving the northern states in the Winter time, but some people just don't get what snow is or ice or sleet or bitter cold.

Hi Mark,
I'll have to look into that. Up to now all I do is press the key fob and the electrical is dead. If I get on the bike before I disengage it, it will flash the lights and won't start untill I disengage. It's kept me honest a few times. LOL I haven't set up the siren and that has another on/off pageing device that blinks or something, maybe makes noise as well, while I'm away from my bike. Sounds like another winter project I can take care of.
Thanks for the tip.

When I have taken mine in to the dealer to have work done on it I just take a zip tie and fasten the fob to the frame of the bike.

I think it only sucks to trailer when it's good riding conditions. Guys who trailer from Lauderdale to Daytona for example. Riding out in the ice and snow? Doesn't make sense. What do you do? Ride 2200 miles to Sturgis, 2200 miles back, and what, 50 miles while you're there? When you trailer, you can take all kinds of extra gear, and have a lot more riding time while you're there. I think everyone should do it once. I want to do it. Ride all the way there and back. But once you've done it, then trailering is cool.

No reason not to, I guess. There's a lot of nice riding. But are you going to burn time and energy looking at corn fields for 2 days? Same same Daytona. Once you've made the ride... Heck, I ride to Daytona and back most every year. 500 mileride, lone wolfing it. Spend about 100 bucks, get a cool T-Shirt. I may never pay for another room.

Besides, if you bring your S Ol' lady... and she's got a license... well, you nerver know. She might say yes.
