I need your help...today while I was wiping off my 06 FXSTI (only 50 miles on the bike) I noticed some oil under the bike on the engine case. It looks to me like its seeping from where the casings come together ? Is this normal ? I can see on the casing that it has spread out in roughly a 5in circle..When I rubbed my fingers along the joint I felt just a very slight amount of oil ??
What should I do ?[&o]
Thanks !

NO! It is not "Normal". Your new bike should not leak at all ....ZERO. Bring it in to the dealer and accept nothing less then perfect. After repaired watch it very close for any other leaks. As much as we pay for these bikes, accept nothing less then perfect. If you take care of your bike and warm it up properly before riding, you should not have any oil seepage or leaks for many many miles. Good luck and stay steadfast.
My 04 FXST does the same thing since day one. Never actually drips but will weep at seam. When mine started at about 1000 miles I was going to take mine back too but decided to wait till the warrenty got closer to expiring. To fix that leak on the crank case seam the motor will have to be removed and the cases split. That means that most of the seals on your whole ride will have to be replaced as well as engine partaully dissasembled. Since I put quite a lot of miles on mine it would be like getting a partual rebuild "free" after 1 1/2 years. Only problem now is it has about quit weeping and with 25000 miles in runs so good I hate to let any one completely dismantal my engine. I have had rotten luck with local dealers, not my present, and am afraid to let any one but me work on her. I would not feel comfortable spliting the cases my self but afraid to let any one else eather!!! About once a month I take a rag with Honda spray pollish (did I say Honda?} and wipe the case seam. Not saying not to get it fixed at all and I would if I had a dealer shop I trusted but I guess I have just learned to accept it as part of her " personallity" sort of like wipeing her bottom!!ha I agree not to accept leak on new bike also, just telling my piticular case.
If its under the bike near the primary cover. check and see if its tranny fluid. the shaft seal is a notorious leaker in newer bikes. My fatboy 04 leaked their from day one, brought it to dealer and fixed it, no problems after two years. Dealers usually know about these little problems. don't worry. be happy. Pefection is a difficult thing to obtain. last time I looked only God was perfect. good luck jim
A buddys '05 FXST had a small leak and would leave a few drops on the garage floor. The dealer replaced a tranny seal (under warranty) and that took care of it.
