So.. then the question beyond all this, which lower kit to go with? I've seen those out there that replace the entire shock and those that you have to disassemble the shock and make the mod.

I think I'm more interested in going with the entire replacement, with a progressive rate shock. Any thoughts?

If money is not a problem then go with entire shock. Much easer to do and a better ride then stock. I have the Progressive stock extensions and I like them but they were a pain to dissamble Doable put still a pain.

As far as lowering the rear only, in the case of the SE Fatboy (pictured below), that is exactly what Harley has done, in comparing the SE Fatboy to the standard Fatboy.

Hey guys, is lowering the bike something I can do myself, or do I have to take it to the dealer?... I guess I just want to know if it requires special tools or what?

Thanks.

Lowered 1 3/4" using Progressiveadjustable 413 shocks.
I think the handling isn't as good as stock, but not that bad either.
My new tires restored most of my handling. New tires make a huge difference.
I'm pretty lazy when it comes to installing the hard to do parts. I let an INDY do the job. Total cost was around $400.00
Personally, I do not like the look of a lowered front fork, so rear only for me.

If you change the shock and go with Progressive, go chrome. A waste of money I know, but the only other choice was this hideous looking gold, and you can still see some of the shock.
