Buying first harley
Right now the dealers know it's a buyer's market, but that doesn't mean they will give away all their profit just to get another sale. The deals are all a little different depending on where you are in the country and the type of bike you're buying. The most popular bikes keep the highest prices, so consider that as you negotiate.
Also, the price of the bike is only one part of the total negotiation. They will also want you to buy parts/accessories/service agreements/extended warranty. The total package is not down until you walk out the door with the bike, and even then it's not done. If you leave the dealer decent income on the bike they are more willing to cut a deal on parts/accessories. But if you negotiate the bike price to limit their profit they are less likely to negotiate reduction on parts/accessories. That's why those items are always negotiated seperately. The amount of room they are willing to move on any one item is related to the amount of profit on other items.
Do a little research on this forum and you'll find lots of discussions about prices for all of these items. Right now 20% of parts/accessories is available from online spots like Chicago HD, so I'd use that as leverage. Promise to buy "X" dollars in parts if they give you 20% off and a discount on installation. But remember that their willingness to negotiate on all these things is always relative to how badly they need to move the product and how much profit they will have left.
Good luck on the deal. As most will tell you, get what you want at the price you think is fair and don't worry about what others think. You can always lie later about how good a deal you got.

And you picked the most bad-*** harley they make, IMO!

I am going in this friday to talk to my dealer and see what price he offers me for the 08 Night train. I was wondering what price i should be looking for. I am getting a few accessories that add up to 1726 and some powder coating that comes to 940. I want to pay MSRP and no freight or set up cost. I added it up to be a little over 20 thousand after tax. I was wondering if there are any other cost that the dealer is going to be putting on the bike. Is that the price that i should be looking for? This is my first time buying a harley so i dont really know how it all works. Thanks for the help.

Hang in there. What I did was to call and e-mail every single dealer in the state of Texas to find the right deal. Harly only allocated a certain number of bikes, so key is finding that dealer who needs a higher sales quota to receive a larger allotment of bikes for the coming year. I bought my Heritage $2,000 UNDER MSRP and no prep charges. I had to drive 180 miles to get it, but I love to save my hard earned money. On a Night Train, they are probably going to sell at MSRP. Some dealers charge DSRP (Dealer Suggested Retail Price) on the more popular units. The Night Train falls under that category.
If you really want to know the true MSRP, pick up a copy of the NADA book and it will give you the Harley MSRP and not the dealer MSRP.
In the end...you will have an American Legend that will put a song in your heart for years to come. It cured my Mid-Life Crisis.
Best of luck.
