? Springer
Ok, I'm new here and to riding own bike. So I have some questions I need ask, please.
Some might be really dumbass too. But......
The Deuce and the Springer are what want. May have to flip a coin. My question is this,
since I am a new rider should I stay away from the Springer? I've heard they can be
hard to handle on rough roads and heavy on maintenance.
I've found an 05 just dying to bring home.

They are alittle more work to maintain, and it takes alittle getting used to as far as the springer front. But you get used to it and if thats what you like then thats what you should get. If not you will be kicking yourself in the a$$ for not buying the bike you really wanted. imo
just buy the one you want
opinions are great but dont mean ****
your paying for the bike so you have to like it. unless some else is flipping the bill, then sweet.

The older springers used to dive a bit upon braking, but the newer ones don't have this problem. I love the way my springer rides and I love the look. It feels a little heavier in the front end (which I like), but handling is really no different
I knew the springer was the bike for me from the beginning!!
I don't notice any issues with handling at all other than enjoying
seeing the front springs work as I go through the gears!![sm=gears.gif]

My wife and I own a Deuce and a Springer. I like the ride of both. Neither one is hard to handle. Neither one has posed a large maintenance burden. Both have recently fallen out of the regular production line. But I can't come up with a single reason why you should stay away from either one.
Sure there is rhetoric out there that says Springers have head bearing issues and Deuces are the red headed step child when it comes to accessories. Both may be true but I can say from first hand experience that neither rumor has posed a problem for me. I haven't spent extra money maintaining my Springer and I have found all the accessories I can afford and more for the Deuce. Every model and year has it's own set of eccentricities that might make it a better or worse choice over another. So it's a wash any direction you go, even if you decided to go with a Dyna or a Fatboy.
Here's my advice, if you like them both, either way you go will ultimately be a good decision. Find the first good deal and go for it. And of course post pics when you get it.

I would hate the thought of parting with my '97 Heritage Springer
even though I also have an '03 Ultra Classic
They play well together, Unsupervised !

Go for the springer...it'll set you apart from every other motorcycle out there. No mistaking what it is, and there's real heritage there, too. I had a "real" original springer over 40 years ago, and I love my 96 FXSTS that I have now. I'm just getting ready to install new head bearings after almost 40,000 miles, but so what. That's not too big of a deal as far as I'm concerned. I still have the stock buckhorn bars, and they are narrower than usual, which contributes to slightly heavier handling at slow speeds, but the bike is very stable at highway speeds.
So go for it, I say!
