There is step by step directions with pics in your owners manual. It tells you which fluids to use and the quantity. If you don't have an owners manual you can go on ebay and get a model specific service manual on CD like I did for $8instead of$60fora paperback. Hell, it'll show ya how to tear down the engine, not that I would. The seller I got mine from is continentalrepairman. You'll save tons of cash by changing oil and filter yourself as opposed $85 or $95 an hour for labor plus oil and filter at the stealer!

I found one on Ebay but its a 2007 manual. Is there much of a difference between an 07 and 08 softail?

06 to 07 there were some significant changes but 07-08 there should be fewer.

Double check me but this should be your fluid info...

Engine: 3.0 qt, 20W50 (There are different recommendations for different lowest ambient temps. This assumes >40 degrees F)

Primary: 32 oz, Formula+ Trans and Primary Lube

Trans: 32 oz (Dipstick at FULL with motorcycle on Jiffy Stand and filler plug resting on threads), Formula+ Trans and Primary Lube

If you go dino oil...HD suggests their primary and trans lube for those and their 20W50 for the engine. It isn't them trying to poo-poo other lubes. They just would go broke testing everyone else's products. So they only suggest what they know works. If you go synthetic, HD recommends Syn3 20W50. That makes life easier for you; Syn3 can be used in all three holes. I think they also made a dino blend that worked with all three holes but not sure if that's still around.

I'm not smart enough on other brand oil options. Others can talk to those better.

The fluid change procedures should be in the owner's manual. If not, and if you can't find a service manual, your dealer should be able to print the procedures for you.

You can find other books that would help you like 101 harley davidson twincam performance
projects, they show you how to change oil and other stuff but a manuel is better because
you'll get all the torque specs and it covers everything. You got a 20,000 dollar bike whats
another 50 bucks...

PS you will need an oil filter wrench about $10.00
