How do you feel about a car coming at you night with the high beams on....Same rules apply for me on the bike.. High beams on when needed and respect other vehicles.
High 90% of the time. I rarely go low - foggy Monterey Bay weather sometimes requires low. Else the low beam really isn't that useful. It lacks the projection I want to be able to scan far enough ahead of me when I ride. As is, the low beam hits the road too close to the front of the bike and I think it draws your eyes down so you are focused on the road right in front of your bike and not up ahead of you.
I haven't had oncoming traffic complain about running with the high beam. Even if they did I would prefer they endure the brightness for the second or two it takes for us to pass one another in trade for knowing they saw me.
I've upgraded to a Sylvania H4 bulb and that helped some but it's still less than adequate for me.
