Default Fuel Pak vs PC III for 2006 Heritage???

Please excuse this question if it has been asked before. The search function is currently down so I was unable to do a search.

I currently have a 2006 Heritage Softail Classic with fuel injection. This is my first bike with FI.

I am looking at buying either a Vance & Hines Fuel Pak or a Power Commander III for a tuner. There are some other options out there (Thundermax) but the twoI've listed are in the price range I am willing to spend.

Bike will be stock except for a set of Vance & HInes Longshots and a Screamin Eagle Stage 1 air cleaner kit. At this time I am not interested in stroking, larger cams, etc.

The price difference between the Fuel Pak and the PC III is minimal (about $70). However, and this is a BIG however, I am not as computer literate as I would like to be, and I'm awfulat trying to download stuff. One of my biggest concerns is making changes to the programming of either unit in the event I change something on the bike (such as the exhaust).

The Fuel Pak programming seems pretty straightforward. On the PC III, if needed I could send it back to the dealer (in this case FuelMoto) if I was uncomfortable making any changes myself.

My riding style is a mix of interstate cruising (70-75 mph), country back road cruising (55-65 mph) and the occasional"heavy throttle to 70 or 80 just to hear the pipes"kind of stuff.

Knowing my budget and computer knowledge limitations, which of the these 2 units would be my best option and "bang for the buck"??

Thanks,
BK Meyers

I have the Screaming Eagle Race Tuner in my '06 and only the installing dealer (according to other dealers) can touch it. I can't believe this but that's what "they" say. So my advise is don't put yourself in my position if what I've been told is true.

richp5, thanks for the advice. I'm 50 miles from the nearest dealer so I definitely don'twant to be dependent on them for tuning or changes.

Fuel/Pak requires NO dyno tuning and is easy to install. If you plan only pipes and a/c it will give you the most bang for your buck.

I boughta PCIII from Fuelmoto after much research. I have not yet put it on, but it will be installed in the next couple of weeks.
Fuelmoto will put the map in for you.

Hey BK
I amat about the same point as you with my mods, I am leaning towards Samson BG3 Slashers however I probably will go with the PCIII because I am a systems engineer and download/ upgrades are not a problem. I have been looking at the Fuelpak too and it looks pretty easy and straight foward without the use of a computer. Go to the Vancs and Hines site and view the install video that closley matches your bike. I am sure if you change your pipes later on down the road that you can go back to thier site and get new setting numbers for the Fuelpak.

Ride safe, have fun and lookout for your brothers ans sisters on two wheels.

I agree with rockerhead - if you're only looking at pipes (especially V&H pipes), and a high-flow AC, then the FuelPak is very straightforward - basicall plug and play. If you are looking at future engine upgrades - cams, lifters, etc. I would look at a more extensive tuner. Mine works great and I paid less thank $200 on-line thru American Classic Motors (on eBay). Good luck !!!
