I'm having a hard time mounting the Powercommander III on my Night Train. Mine didn't come with the "new" ECU tray. I've got it hanging off the side and velcro'd to the frame facing forwads. I tried to follow their directions on mounting but it just isn't going to happen without the ECU tray. The bike has an alarm so that small bracket under the battery box is out of the question.
Has anyone installed this with the included ECU tray? If so, how did it go?
I can tell you that the PCIII made a huge difference over the stock ECU. I could feel it right away, much better throttle response. Not sure about the millage right now, we'll have to see.
I had no problem installing mine but it came with the new tray. It still was snug under the seat but no issues. Did they forget to include the tray or did you get it used?
It was an ebay deal, won the auction ($170) and paid for it. A day or two later, the seller told me that he noticed that the case was cracked when it came off the bike. He promptly refunded my money and sent it back to DynoJet for repair.
DynoJet replaced the unit for $150 and I picked it up directly from there here in Las Vegas. The seller was very cool, he didn't want any money after that, he felt bad that it was broken.
So I got a new PCIII with everything but the tray. I think the guy forgot to give it to me.
Just fishing for installation tips that may avoid the ECU tray but I think that's the only way to go. I'll have to contact them today / tomorrow to get the tray.
Have you thought of fabbing up a tray yourself? I'd look into some sheet metal and model it after the stock one except for being deeper. I'm away from home otherwise I would provide you some measurements.
How about contacting Power Commander directly and see if they will just give you a tray or maybe it's cheap. Some of these companies are good that way. I just had Easy Brackets send me a replacement Docking Post and they didn't charge me.
i saw an episode of vtwin a couple of weeks ago and i'm pretty sure they did an install with the powercommander. they put a new battery in that was slimmer so they could put it in the battery tray.
