Is anybody out there with a Heritage (or any Softail) running the new Premium Oil Cooler for Softails (part # 26136-05 for $289.00) AND an engine guard??? According to the catalog and website, they claim that the two are incompatible because both items use the same mounting location. This oil cooler was redesigned and released this past August to replace the previous version that was prone to leaks at the adapter assembly. My dealer says it simply won't work with an engine guard and they refuse to install it on my bike. [:@] I refuse to give up my engine guard. I find it a little hard to believe that HD would design a "new & improved" oil cooler for Softails that cannot be used with an engine guard....that makes no sense to me. Why design something that can't be used in conjunction with a part (that being the engine guard) that most owners already have installed on their bikes??? [sm=dontgetit.gif]
So....once again...if anyone is running this new cooler that just came out in August of 2005 with an engine guard, can you please post some close-up pictures of the mounting hole in which both parts are bolted to...so that I can take it to my dealer and tell them that it's [sm=bs.gif]
I have an 04' FatBoy with this cooler and the Lindby (sp) engine guard, no problems.
The cooler uses the down-tubes as a mounting point, I dont know why the Stealership said it wont work?
Lookup the part number on the H-D site again, take a REAL CLOSE look at the picture, it looks like the
bike in the photo has a guard and cooler mounted. Either that, or my eyes are getting bad
You live in Chicago and need an oil cooler?? Why? It doesn't even get HOT up there.....
I have the 95ci stage II on my bike, so it runs quite a bit hotter. And believe me, it does get hot up here, especially if you couple that with sitting in traffic all day long. Congestion is a big problem around here...in Chicago, you aren't going anywhere fast.

Yes, I have seen the picture in the catalog and on the website...but it's the same picture that they used for the old oil cooler...so you can't really go by that. I also managed to get a peek at the installation instructions for this cooler, and it does show a mounting hole at the top of the cooler that bolts to the same hole that the engine guard bolts to....that's why I'm confused about it. You are the second person that I've run across that has said that there is no mounting hole at the top...it just mounts on the downtubes. The older version of this cooler mounted on the downtubes (I had one on my bike but it leaked so I had it removed) so I'm wondering if perhaps you have the older version like I had, and not the newer that just came out in Aug. of 2005.
