[8D]All,
Well I am in the process of replacing my tires on my 1996 Heritage softail classic with true duals. Looking for information on removing and reinstalling. Thanks Mike
Easier said than done. Since I do not have a lift, I had my local stealer do the tires for me (including mounting & balancing). Dropped it off Friday evening, picked it up Saturday by 11 am and went off to lunch with wife. No sweat, no busted knucles, no back pain, maybe the main reasons I do not want to tackle this kind of job myself.
need a lift(jack)
take off the debris guard and the belt guard
don't mess with the belt adjuster bolts on either side(softail) leave em be
loosen the axle nut
either take off the brake caliper or undo the line......(depending)
jack up the bike so when you bring the rear tire out you can roll it out
take off the belt off the pulley
pull off the axle nut...
and tap the axle through while supporting the tire some how from dropping(use a little jack or chair or such)
roll the tire out...
only thing putting it back is coating ur axle with a good amount of anti seize and torquing everything back to spec
buy a service manual and find out how to do this, cept they will tell you to loosen the belt adjuster bolts...
but they will tell you the torques you need to use...and other important things as well
You will need to loosen the belttensioner bolt on the belt side to remove the belt. just mark it and reset it. You won't be able to get the belt on and off without doing this
