welcome to the world of riding. I've been riding for years and just recently went to a full face. What a difference...the noise level, the bugs, the fatigue from all that wind in your face and I ride when its in the 30's so, it makes a HUGE difference in that dept.. I also got the Scorpion x-700...it's a great helmet that is both DOT and Snell approved for a REALLY great price. I still have my 3/4 helmet and I still wear it occasionally, but for the longer trips, cooler weather riding and safety factor, I find myself almost always with the full face helmet on. Wishing you many years of safe riding...
Thank you much for the good wishes,jglasgow110 , and for the thumbs up on the Scorpion. And yes, the price is right--list says $349, but found it for just over $200--guess the 1000 series is bringing the price down on the 700's--lucky me, for it sounds like there is little dif between the two. Ride safely as well. Take care, A.

Do some more price checking...I paid in the $150's for mine. It's a flat black so I don't know...maybe you're getting one with a design and it costs more. If you are positive of the fit...you can order one off the net. They DO seems to run a little small. Good luck!

Congrats on the little one. My daily driver (F250 4x4 4dr diesel) has forced me to ride my bike to work more often. Coming from a motocross/single track background, I know the value of agood helmet and know it can save your live. I'malso police officer andhave made more accidents involvingmotorcyclesthanI care to. I've seen it all, no helmets,3/4 helmets, 1/2 helmets, and full face helmets. I admit, I wear a half helmet whenI run to the store or a buddies house down the street.WhenIride anywhereat highway speeds its always with the full face helmets. WhenI ride to work its also always in the full face. There are people out there that hate the police and willmess with oneon a bike with their car. It only takes one *** to bump youandyou are going down. Not only isafullface helmet safer but when you get where you are going you are not as fatigued. Don't worry about wearing one and what people will say. You know as well as the rest of us here, when you post something about a full face there will be a few self proclaimed "tough guys" thatwill mock you.I just tell them, "I didn't buy a Harleyto look cool....myd!ck is not that small."

Back to the helmets. I ride with a Shoei RF-1000. I've had them all and to me, this one is the most comfortable. I say buy the best one you can afford. I've made accident scenes where cheap helmets broke apart way too much. I made a scene once were the face shield shattered, a piece cut through hisface then roadthe cheek bonestopping at his ear.The kicker wasit wasn't that badof an accident. Anyway, best of luck and congrats againon the baby.

Try it before you buy it. All brands have slightly different shapes and we all have slightly different heads. Makes a huge difference on long rides having that brand that fits your egg best.

Hi there and many congratulations from here in the UK.

Over here, we have to legally wear approved helmets, so it is never a question of a helmet or not, but a question of which one. I have tried loads of them over the years, open face, flip front and full face, most makes as well. For me I wear an Arai full face most of the time. Its comfy and cool enough not to boil on hot days. I also have a Arai open face and a Shoei flip.I feel very exposed now with the open face as I have worn the full face for such a long time, so hardley wear it now. The flip is good but make sure you get one witha strong chin guard as some of them are just thing plastic that bend if you puch them lightly! i.e. not much better than a open face.

I also ride with an armoured leather jacket and trousers (pants!). I have two young kids and I have to agree with you, it does make you think more about protecting yourself whilst on your bike. If that makes me uncool then hey, I will be uncoolbut alive! There is only so much you can do to protect yourself on a bike and I like to think that if I was in an accident, I did everything possible to protect nmyself against injury.

I have never ridden without a helmet, but the thought of it makes me shudder as hitting anything over 5mph with your head can't be good!

Hope this helps

I wear a fullface for the same reason just for my grandson. My grandfather was an important person in my life and I want to be in my grandsons life too....
Hmm, reality check people, you guys actually think a helmet is going to save your life in a major accident? Statistics show helmet usage protects YOUR HEAD against major injuries, but what about the rest of your body? We see examples of it all the time, like theMOTORCYCLE COPwho, apparently lost control, crashed and died while watching Clinton's cavalcade, or the idiot old man who "didn't see the bike" and rammed and killeda MOTORYCLECOP, any more?Ride defensively, keep your distance and stay away from those cagerstalking oncell phones.

I do wear a helmet every day, and also thinking of getting a full face helmet, I am tired of being hit by debri in the face all the time. A flip up sounds good.
There is a happy medium in what you are describing. Unfortunately many more accidents are lone accidents. Sliding on debree, deer running in front of you, avoiding the car but going down anyway. An accident doesn't have to mean an accident where you get hit by a truck and dragged 100 yards before stopping.
I went down in a corner, wearing full track gear and Shoei Helmet. I broke 5 ribs, my finger and my head slammed into the street. My gloves really protected my hands as they slammed the carbon fiber into the street and dragged along. When my head hit the street right on the side it was no worse than my wife hitting me with a pillow.
A friend suffered life long brain damage riding 10 mph and falling off a bike and hitting his head with no helmet.
Another friend on a Boss Hoss with a little beany helmet got hit coming home by a deer. He was in the hospital for a long time with head injuries. They could have been prevented with a good helmet. They work!
I ride my Harley with my Joe Rocket riding pants, Jacket, AlpineStar Gloves, Suomy Helmet (replaced the Shoei) and don't give a rats *** what people think about my gear. I ride a harley for the ride just like my sportbike and don't need to look like the typical HD guy.
I know my gear will protect me as much as humanly possible if I go down!

Congratulations! Amazing how a family can change your perspective on things. I've been ona Harley for 20+ years. Have always wore a full-face. Been tempted by the cool factor of the 1/2 helmets and novelty helmets and even tried a few. For me it's like getting in a car and putting on a seatbelt - makes me feel better.

Many arguments for and against, half vs. full etc. All depends on what you want and how you feel. True that any helmet isn't going to do much for you ifyou're in a major accident. That's a chance you (we all) take. As for me, I'd much rather be remembered as the guy that was killed on a motorcycle cause I was broadsided by a dumbass talking on a cell than the guy who may have survived the minor accident if I had only beenwearing a helmet.

Its a boy, congrats man. Started doing the Nascar weekly racing thing several years ago, and wasnt rideing. Always wore 3/4 in my younger years.Traded my passion in on a new Harley. This winter wore my Simpson full face I used racing. Love it, very exspensive though. Never wore a half helmet until this spring. (thougt it would be cool) Im having trouble getting used to it. All the wind noise, cant breath good for all the wind. I feel exposed, unprotected and naked. My head feels like one of those bobble heads when I'm up to speed. Think I might stick mith my simpson.

Full face flip up - Caberg http://www.designerhelmets.com/prodcat.php?cat=Caberg. I paid around $260.Nice helmet. kindof warm in the summer. So I remove the visor. Still can flip down the internal visor. The flip front is easy. Good quality helmet for the money. If I had the money to spend, and really shouldn;t be an issue anyways. How much money is your head worth? I'd try an Arai or Shoei next.
