Getting a full face helmet.
I've got a HJC symax(modular) and it's great to be able to open it up when stopped without having to take off your helmet. Wearing a helmet is just smart in my book, if people want to worry about being cool at the risk of injury, fine for them.
This thread started as a question about what full face helmets people have, not whether or not you should wear a helmet. How about keeping it on topic instead of harrassing him for his decision.
My jacket, which was ruined after that was also my friend that day. You never know what is around the corner, on the road or what. Tell you what Boone, you really do bring up a good point here!!!
Tell ya, I went sliding for 50 feet on my full face helmet after getting into some sand that slid me into a curb head on. Black carbon fiber helmet had white trails all over it. I kept seeing asfalt sliding on buy on my head and felt pretty good about my helmet during the whole deal which was kinda like a slow motion movie... THen I wondered what happened to the bike. it landed right next to me in a bath of sparks. Screwed up my foot a bit, but that helmet was my friend on that day.

That'sa great story Strgzr, and you may not have been able to tell us if you didn't make the choice to wear the good riding gear. I think you made the right choice Boone. I decided to get a full face helmet (Shoei RF-1000) after I took a rider safety course, and thenfound that it is much more comfortable to ride than with the half helmet. We have a helmet law in Nevada but I wouldn't think about riding without it if I was in a state that didn't.We all have our own reasons for choosing the amount of gear we ride with. I even wear my riding jacket when it's 115 here. I think super hot pavement might hurt!!!! I don't ever want to find out. It's good thing they have gear out there that is good for all ypes of conditions.
Ride safe and congrats on the baby.
Not wearing protective gear just to look cool is the single most retarded thing I've ever heard. How cool will you look with your *** grafted to your face because you ground off your cheeks sliding down the road?
I ALWAYS wear a full face helmet, an armored ballistic nylon jacket, and sturdy leather boots. I don't care if it's sport bike gear or not, I want to live, AND have all my flesh, if/when I crash.

ROFL.......I was talking about this just last week. A friend of mine is planning on buying Harley and he's planning on getting a half helmet to look cool. I told him I had a modular helmet and that I wasn't concerned about "cool points" and would rather protect my face. Put it this way, my entry in "Don't ask me how I know" tells it all.
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
I have owned a bike since I was 15. Never not had one. Even when I Had my Duke in bits in my bedroom rebuilding her.
I have always worn a helment and our laws require it anyway.
As I have owned and ridden a lot of the latest Jap superbikes at the time and rode fairly hard my accidents seem to go the same way.
(hard and fast)
I have had about 5 major accidents and a stack of small ones.
I would always ride with a helmet on as U never know when or where it is gonna happen. A ride down to the local garage and a car came through a stop sign and took me out so keep em on.
I use to always wear a full face but since ringing Harleys for the last 15 years I have been using a half-3/4 face helmet.
Full face are good and I haveone for my children when they come for a ride but don't know if I would go back to one in the near future. I feellike Ican see betterand feel better with myopen face helment.
Just my 2c
Remember its not the car that U can see but the one U don't that will get U.
I've been thinking of the same exact thing lately, I have a 4 year old and despite what the other dude said having children does make you reevaluate riding. Many people give it up completely for their children, I think you are on the right track. Wearing a full face helmet definitely mitigates some of the dangers of riding, not completely but lets be honest guys it does offer more protection in a crash, theres no doubting that. I was thinking about a Shoei or Arai, I heard nothing but great things about them, and yes Im willing to pay more money for a great hemlet
