I've been riding for over 40 years. Never rode without at a helmet. And, all my helmets have been full face. Of all the helmets I've had, I like Shoei helmets the best. The Shoei RF-1000 is a great helmet! Don't go cheap on a new lid. It will pay for itself if ever you need it.
By riding with a helmet, You will setting a good example to your son.
Ride safe and keep in mind to ride with ATGATT (all the gear, all the time).

I have 3 helmets and one is a full-face. I only wear it when it's really cold out. It's an HJC AC-11. $200 helmet and got it for $130 when the AC-12's were coming out. And i bought a tinted shield for it. I would keep the clear shield in my bag for night riding. Real nice, and it's composite. Don't get plastic, unless you want your head to bounce like a super ball if you ever land on it. Some have anti-fog shields and removable padding so you can wash it and lot's of venting. Do some research on the different brands and don't skimp, cause it's your head we're talking about.

I wear an Arai Signet that I have sanded and painted Black Denim to match my bike.

That being said the Harley flip-up helmets look like they are a good deal and look good too.

IMHO Helmets let you see and hear better, especially at highway speeds. Locally I will occasionally wear just glasses.

Ps: I stopped riding for a while with first kid, started again a few years later.

Its pretty normal, but I would keep the bike anyway just in case the urge strikes. Cheaper in long run than not riding and buying a new one.

Mike

I dont like the look of the tail light but the rest it great. I took the batteries out of it and all is good.

I am not really worried about a Major accident. it is the accident between home and work at 25-30 MPH I am worried about. I know its hard for you to figure out most accidents when within 2 miles of your home. Just for your information I dumped a few bikes in my life, when I was younger and hit my head a few times. Glad every moment I had on a helmet.
To show evidence for your claim you should use actual data or an event that applies to me. I am not a cop, I don't escort motorcades, andI don't drive a bike in Dallas. and by the way the rest of my body I wear a $250 reinforced leather jacket.

I wear a fullface for the same reason just for my grandson. My grandfather was an important person in my life and I want to be in my grandsons life too....
Hmm, reality check people, you guys actually think a helmet is going to save your life in a major accident? Statistics show helmet usage protects YOUR HEAD against major injuries, but what about the rest of your body? We see examples of it all the time, like theMOTORCYCLE COPwho, apparently lost control, crashed and died while watching Clinton's cavalcade, or the idiot old man who "didn't see the bike" and rammed and killeda MOTORYCLECOP, any more?Ride defensively, keep your distance and stay away from those cagerstalking oncell phones.

I do wear a helmet every day, and also thinking of getting a full face helmet, I am tired of being hit by debri in the face all the time. A flip up sounds good.

Shoei or Arai for true comfort and performance. I don't know what is missing, but something has to be for a helmet to be $125 in todays market. I wear a shoei rf-1000 every day hot or cold, rain or shine. Comfortable and reasonably quiet.
Price has a very loose correlation with safety. Those high-end helmets mostly have better styling, comfort, and brandingfor sure.If you buy a $200 helmet on sale for $100 you'regettingthe samequality ateither price. Just saying.

yeah man, I'm not saying a helmet is gonna save my life if I tbone someone at 60 mph. But, more in the case where someone pulls out in front of me at 30 mph and I can't do anything but launch through the air. A buddy of mine who lives in Florida was cruising through his neighboorhood at 30.... Literally one block away from his house an SUV pulled out in front of him and he rearended it. Flew through the back window up into his back seat.... He is still messed up a year later, but only alive bc of his helmet. That's a reality check, bro.

I picked up aFulmer full-face modular (flip up) helmet at the local HD shop. They fit me better than the Harley helmets did and it only cost me $129.00. Great price and fit. Includes removable liner and ear pads. Ear pads feature room for ear phones or intercom. Lots of colors available, including gloss black, which is what I got. Fulmer won't sell online--they want you to go to the shop to be sure you're getting the correct fit.

Ridden with HJC, Shoei, HD and Arai. Arai is the most comfortable and was vented the best so almost no heat in summer unless i was stopped for a long period. Downside is that it is the most expensive. I have found that the more you pay the lighter the helmet is. I guess more R&D in the helmet. My HJC while just as safe as the Arai was a lot heavier. The lighter helmet will pay dividends on your neck and back on a long ride. Just my 2 cents.
