10,000 Mile Service
I can't tell you how much I learn from this forum. I've only been riding since September, I ride every chance I get, and I'm wanting to keep my '04 Heritage Softail running for a long time. I'm working on the 10,000 mile service. In the service manual it talks about critical fasteners. There are a few I can't find in the manual and I want to make sure I'm applying the right torque to the right bolts on the bike. Wonder if anyone can help me.

both the lower and upper binch bolts are what hold your forks to the triple tree. FL Models you have to remove the headlight and necelle to get to them.
What are the riser clamp screws?
these hold you handle bars on. Usually your looking right at them when you ride.
What are the riser lock nuts?
these are under the top of the triple tree. they hold the riser to thetriple tree.
If the cotter pin hasn't moved, do you all still take it off and check the rear axle bolt torque?
yes.
How do you check the steering head bearings?
in your book there is a fall-away procedure.follow that procedure to see if an adjustment is needed.
Do you all check your spoke tightness and does it take a special tool?
generally I dont mess with spokes. I do take a light screwdriver and tap on the spokes. they should generally sound the same as you run the screw driver around the rim listening to the "ting" for the tone. Cant help you on tightening because you can really mess thing up of you tighten them incorrectly.
Review the front end parts diagram. all you parts you write of are listed there. Best of luck. Mike
