Having owned bikes with forwards as well as boards and hwy pegs, I'll vote for boards + hwy pegs. Boards are more comfortable for me and the hwy pegs give me another option for position.
I guess it all depends on if the looks are a problem with you.
I just installed a set of the HD Forward Controls on my 2007 Fat Boy...I've ridden about 250 miles with them and love them! You can find some photos of this modon the following thread...https://www.hdforums.com/m_3099706/tm.htm
My Fat Boy is a 'local cruiser'...I felt that the boards were not in line with the 'cruiser' look that I was trying to capture. Although the boards aretotally functional...I put more importance on the look of my ride. Again, it is a 'local' cruiser. Now I am only 5'5" and suffer from that terrible disease ofwhat is known as'inseam challenged." At 6'4" you would certainly need the extended controls for sure. My forwards fit me and my short-assed legs very well.
I guess it all comes down to personal choice DrawDown. Harley makes a great line of motorcycles, butthere is not one model that fits 'all' of our needs. So, I'll use my forward control outfitted Fat Boy for in town cruising and looking cool, and get my 2009 Street Glide with boards for long, comfortable trips. Is this a great country, or what?
I had the same type of binding feeling, but just installed extended floorboards, shifter and brake lever.
Got 'em through Bubba's. 2" forward on the floor boards and 2 3/4" forward on the levers. In the process I removed the back lever on the shifter since it was always in the way and never used it. They have some cool looking pedals for the brake and shifter that will give your bike the custom feel. The floorboards are milled deeper so your rubber pad fits in there flush compared to stock.
a little pricey, but pretty nice stuff.
oh yeah, feels a lot better riding than before. More foot clearance with the extended levers, too.
I'm 6'5" and ride with board extensions that move them away from the bike...got them through Harley Goodies (site sponsor). What a difference they make...and not too expensive for the comfort.
Dude, Nice bike. $hit can the boards it deserves Forwards for sure. You will find that you will have a new feeling of riding the bike rather than sitting on the bike.. Besides how can U corner with curb scrapers for footrests?! yEa !!
having riddenwith bith forward are the only way to go
can't imagine going back to boards plus forward looks a lot better just wish I had mine extented another 3 inches / someday....
Yeah, forwards are the way to go. Love the look, and the feel. Sometimes miss the boards, but then I just have to look at how much better it looks with forwards. And I forget all about the boards.
