Yea, I did it myself, I have done almost everything on my bike myself. But I'm no stranger to a wrench.
Its not hard to do at all. I did it and would recomend doing it whenyou change the oil. Your going to be removing thefilter anyway so its not big deal to pull out the threaded piece the filter screws on to. Then put the gasket, thermostate housing and replacement filter mount in.
After that its just a matter of putting on the two hoses, their clampsand mount the cooler with its three frame clamps.
If your at all handy with toolsthe actual cooler installshouldn't take more than 15/20 minutes tops, minus the cover. After that its just a matter of putting on a new filter and replacing the oil.
ANY PIX of that oil cooler would be mega appreciated. If it's the one I am thinking of, it actually mounts vertically across the front down tubes. Does it affect air flow across the front cylinder head? Just curious. You really need one in Florida, cause it's a 'wet heat'.
I'll take a fewin the morning and post the best of them tomorrow. Can't do it now as its too late and the silly puppies will thinkI want to play if I wake them up. We won't mention what will happen if they wake upthe wife, and they will.

Here you go, as promised.

This is of the cooler without the chrome cover that is seen on Soft06's bike. I have it, just haven't put it on yet.
At the top you can see two of the threeframe tube mounting clamps and their chrome Allen screws. The other one is on the bottom on the left or drivers side of the bike.

This is what it looks like from the back with the hoses installed. It does block off any access to the oil filter from the front. But if you have one of the big socket style filter wrenches and an extension for a 3/8" drive socket wrench it doesn't matter.

Here's a shot of the fitting that you put on behind the filter. I put the hoes on before I installed it to make it easier. There isn't a lot of room to work if the hoses want to be annoying. So its a lot easier to put them on first. Just leave the clamps loose till they are in their final position.

These are the hose fittings on the back side of the cooler itself. Kind of tough to see. But when you put it on just slip on the clamps loosely and you can bend the hose out to get them on the cooler good. Tiny bit of oil on the fittings will help if they are being stuborn.

Once you have double checked the hose clamps, filter, and mounting bolts are tight. Just fill it back up with oil and fire it up. The filter replacement mounting screw comes with a sealant already on the threads and thenuts for the mouning screws are of the Nylock kind. So there is no need for locktight or thread sealant of any kind. Its virtually a plug and play deal.

Have fun and ride safe guys.

Good pictures Citoriplus...they show yourinstallation very well.

I installed the same cooler (HD 26157-07) on my 2007 Fat Boy. Iperformed all of the work myself. I can't give you the specific temps, but themotor does runcooler. I live in Florida and during the summer stop-and-go traffic is a killer! The installation was very straight forward and onlyrequired the basic hand tools that any HD owner should have in his tool chest. But like Citoriplus...I am no stranger to a wrench.

I feel that this is a good investment. Allparts are included with the exception of the sealant used to attach the chrome faceplate. In my opinion the mounting of the chromefaceplate is a little cheesy. HDtells you to use ahigh temp sealant (with an HD part number, of course), but it would have been very simple to use some kind ofclips or a few screws.I would have felt a lot better about either of those methods. Although I did not like the sealant,IT DOES WORK!I put the goop on the inside of the cover and the outside of the cooler..stuck it on and taped itfor 24 hours.Just be careful not to use too much because it will seep out and be visible. If it does seep where you can see it...wipe it off while it is still wet. This was my only complaint with the kit...but remember that you are dealing with oil! It is a messy job...have plenty of rags and a catch-pan available!

I noticed no real increase inthe amount of oil I put in the engine.

Good luck guys...

Steve

Believe me guys, if you can change the oil, you can put this thing on.
About the only thing I can think of that's easier is changing the seat.
And that's only easier because it doesn't drip oil when you take it off.
My ONLY complaint is about the cover, I don't like the way it goes on with sealant.
On that one SCJE8 and I are in complete agreement, they could have done a better job.

I'm not going to put it on until I'm sure that I can't figure out something better. Might just drill a couple of small holes in the back edge for a couple of pieces of wire or zip ties.

Thank you for the pix. Great job. Have you noticed that it blocks airflow to the front cylinder at all? That's my lonly concern with it. The older ones mounted horzontally, instead of vertically. But I guess they work ok, if no one has complained.
