Wife has a new 08 Heritage and is loving it, but, she has burns now on her thighs from the heat. She usually wears chaps, but with the weather warming up, it is only going to get worse. I ordered from our dealer a heat shield, but wanted to know what you heritage riders have done and if you have any pictures. I went to no more fried thighs, but she is not sure if she wants the leather, don't want the chrome covered. She is working towards the naked look. She even calls her bike NEL Naked Evil Lady. You all know how woman are. Any suggestions appreciated.
Welcome to the crowd. This is the EPA results from running too lean. You can get a fuel management and the heat will be gone and the engine will last longer. While you doing that you may as well get a stage one done.
I have a 2007 FLSTC and installed the kuryakyn heat shields. They seem to be working pretty good but its only April so I'll have to wait till probably June and then I'll find out. Also just purchased the TMax but I haven't had the time to install. Hopefully this will help.
on a resent trip trip big bend one of the riders had a Thundermax and he was the only one who could stay in 6th gear with the 40mph head wind we had. His bike auto tuned for the additional load.
My stock 07 Deluxe was very hot too. I've noticed a big heat drop-off since adding aftermarket pipes (V&H big shot staggered), SERT, Arlen Ness big sucker and going to synthetic oil. Its gotten into the mid 80's here in Cali and so far its been alright.
This is the tinted version, they work just fine for me.
Thank You, that is what I need to show her. She doesn't want to cover the chrome.
Also, we are probably going to have the Stage 1 done, but was told to get her broke in, plus wife couldn't wait to get her home. In the past week she has owned the bike, she has managed 495 miles tonight. Already set up for servicing next week. She wasn't going to tell me about the burn on her leg, but not like she could keep it a secret. I do sleep with the woman. I felt bad as she really didn't want me to know about it and she is in heaven how this bike rides compared to her sportster. She has not had one problem with it and going from the sportster to this bigger bike. I tried to tell her that in the beginning, but like most woman she didn't listen. But that is ok. She is happy as happy can be now.
Just having a SERT or PCIII installed and having it tuned right will work wonders for the heat. My 06 ran hot as hell untill I had my PCIII tuned and oil temp seldom reaches 230, even on a 95* day.
I read a lot of posts like this about the heat and that re-tuning can help. Appears to be more focused around the newer models. I am a new owner of an 03 fatboy and I live in North carolina where in the summer it can get pretty hot. Is this something that I should also be worried about given that my bike is an 03, or is this something new to the last few years?
So far the only thing that I have really felt heat from is when at a stop my upper leg somewhat rests on the filler cap on the oil tank.
