Im thinking about installing a s&s carb for my stock 88 motor. Is it worth doing? Or should i stay with stock? Not many people run stock carbs anymore. I noticed alot of people modify their carbs. Is it safe to say that i can pick up some extra hp if i modify my carb? Just wondering if it will make a big difference in hp or not.
I would not put an S&S carb on my bike unless I wanted to run flat out all the time. However an aftermarket carb will give you an incredable boost in throttle response, but I HIGHLY recommend a Mikuni 42mm. I did a lot of research before changing out my carb and have not regretted it. Money well spent. The bike ran like it had hot cams installed. (Now it does and really screams)

Agreed if you are planning on staying stock. Nothin against S&S but for stock I'd go with the Mikuni. Anther option is working the stock CV. This guy does nice work for a fair price: http://www.harleydavcvcarbrebuild.com/
I'm no expert, but I can say that my buddy's stock '03 TC88 can't stay with my S&S carb'd 80' evo when we're having some fun. I'm guessing you're going to notice a pretty good difference no matter which one you choose.
