If they are persistent and not going to do it, try calling HD Corporate like previous stated, I have yet to have to do this, but it seems that people have had luck with that route.
Thanks again, anyone got a number?
I'll swing by the dealer Tuesday, like many they are closed on Monday.
Think I'll print this thread out and take it with me.
Not hard at all, getting to the connector can be a pain. You might try pulling it out and cleaning any metal that might be on it. I've heard that sometimes this will help, it didn't for me, had to replace it. This was a carbed bike and speedo quit working, not saying it will fix an idle/die problem.

Reason: Clarify symptoms
Well, I'm still having the same issues with my bike.
Finally got an appointment at the dealer (again).
I take the bike in on the 19th.
Hope I can convince them to replace the speed sensor.
I'll keep everyone posted.

Well its been a few weeks since HD replaced my speed sensor.
It ran great for about 2-3 days, now at times the RPM's go way up.
Makes it hard to ride and comes and goes with no rhyme or rhythm.
I am running a PC III, do I need to reset it and make sure the throttle settings are correct?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, it never cuts out and the idle never drops like it did before.
As some others have said I've had a similar issue with my 08 Heritage. Seems it usually happens on long road trips, most recently in upstate NY. Not a heat issue though. Typically bike will start running rough and when I pull in the clutch at a stop it'll die. Sometimes it'll idle high also.
Next time I take it out it runs like new. I've suspected bad fuel but can't find any connection. Wife and buddies run same fuel with no problems. Also thought maybe the IEDs I'm running may sometimes be confusing the onboard ecm.

Change the speed sensor, thats the issue, I went thru the same thing last summer, it took 3 weeks to resolve the issue with the dealer. They have had issues with them now for years.
Would the speed sensor issue show up on OBD as trouble codes?

Come to think of it, my check engine light does come back on for a few seconds after the initial start up.
I think I will swing by HD tomorrow and have them take a look.
I had this happen once only. Georgia, July, HOT, stop and go traffic, less than 1000 miles on the clock. It wanted to "die" at stop lights. Spooked me big time. I took her in for the 1000 mile service and they said they'd check it out. Couldn't find anything wrong. Has never happened again, and now have over 12,000 miles on her.
On a different note, after I picked the bike up after the initial 1000 mile service, she "smelled" different. I'd get a little puff of smoke on start up, and you could faintly smell gas on shut down. I've wondered if they didn't do something to the magic box, to richen it up just a little. (I've since added Rush pipes, Xied's and a K & N filter, and do my own service checks. Also check the plug color on a regular basis).
Anyway, thats my spiel, now back to your regular scheduled program.
