Default Nightrain stalls when accelerating

My new 96 cubic Nightrain cuts out when accelerating from a dead stop and also at speeds above 55mph on the fwy it will cut in and out, overheat and stall.
I have a Fuel Pak, Basani exhaust and Stage 1 air filter. Ran fine for 3 months after install of the Fuel Pak. 2 dealers are unable to diagnose problem, one claimed it was the high press fuel line then said it was not the problem after they completely disasembled my tank. The other dealer said I was 1 1/2 quarts low of oil which they said is normal for 3 months of riding. "WHAT"!!! ON A BRAND NEW BIKE??
Harley in Milwakee says they won't help me until I return the bike to stock.
The bike has almost no power with stock exhaust and intake, I did not buy the bike to go slow and it's only 6 monhs old. I stoped buying Harley's for years because they just don't run but was told that the new engines are very dependable. So far "not true"!
Any advise or has anyone seen this problem before? Harley dealers claim it's the Fuel Pak and it is shorting out the Harley ECM board. Vance & Hines says "that's impossible, it must be a sensor or the stock ECM is malfuntioning." [:@]

What dealers did you try?

Sounds like you may end up swapping a fuel pak just to see if it fixes the problem .

Still have the stock air cleaner? Try this:

Put the stock air cleaner back on and remove the Fuel Pak. It'll be ok stock everything + exhaust for a little bit. Ride it around and see if you can recreate the symptoms. If you can, it's bike related and you have the bike stock enough for a dealer to help you out. If you can't recreate the symptoms you can be certain that your problem lay with the Fuel Pak; either with settings or the unit itself. From there you can try reprogramming the Fuel Pak or checking with VH to see if there is a way to check to make sure the Fuel Pak itself is functioning correctly.

It might be a PITA to pull the Fuel Pak but your alternative is to continue to be frustrated without solving anything. Good luck.

As for newer Harleys being more dependable - it is true. Even with the lean EPA regulated setups they give you from the factory, if you leave the bike stock or limit your modifications to HD specific intake and exhaust components, the wheels will fall off before the engine gives out. It's not until we start putting aftermarket stuff on them that we start to run into problems. It's unrealistic to expect Harley to guarantee that their bikes will run 100% no matter what you add on to them.

Thanks for the feedback.
Took it to a non dealer today in Torrance since the dealers can't figure it out and let them give it a shot but first I pulled the Fuel Pak and it did the same exact thing. Figured I would have to reinstall the stock air filter and exhaust to really test it but it's in their shop now so I'll see what they come up with. They say the Fuel Pak is working properly and reprogramed it to a higher fuel mixture but the same problem occurs. I'll see what they find in a couple days.

You're right bensonjv, I'm frustrated because I took my new bike to the dealers who had no idea how to diagnose the problem, kept it for 2 days then lied to me and told me they rode it for 60 miles and had no problems. The second dealercould not remove the seat (I had to do it), disassembled my tank becuase they misdiagnosed the problem and scratched the **** out of my fender while reinstalling the seat with no admission or apologies then completed the paperwork claiming they repaired the high press fuelline in tank eventhough they told me that was not the problem and I still have a bike that doesn't run.
I'm trusting the dealers to take care of their customer and they don't. Poor customer service, so I have a problem believing in their products too. I called Milwakee and they totally blew me off saying "we can't help you until you return it to stock".

I will try swapping the Fuel Pak. Anyone had good luck with the Harley Race Tuner and Basani pipes? Willing to make the investment if it solves the problem.

Hey bro hate to here about the problems and the run around from the dealor. I know your frustration as I had to take my new bike (bone stock) with 1000 miles on it in for an exhaust leak. I have started using independant shops in my area for service and advice.

On the fuel injection, I was going to buy a pcIII over the weekend but did not after talking to a tech. I am now trying to find a deal on a thundermax w/autotune. From what I have heard and read they are good units that will support current and future upgrades without taking the bike in to be dynoed after each mod.

Hey thanks Rick, good to hear that I'm not the only one....

Vance & Hines said the same about their product, that there is no need to dyno because it is tuned to the specs already but Harley said I bought the cheapest on the market and good luck with it (or I can buy their Race Tuner for $500). I'm chalking it up to a lesson beinglearned on an expensive hobby. I woud love this bike if the damn thing ran!!

If you are still having problems, try Ventura HD. They are just off US 101 in the Simi Valley area. They setup the Lowrider my OL had and it ran just fine.

My estimate is that the fuel pak is not set up ok. Remove the fuel pak and run the bike, see any dif? if yes aske fuel pak for a feedback

OK oldtimer what did they install on the OL's bike?

Michalislarnaca I ran it for 4 blocks without the Fuel Pak and it did the same exact thing so I towed it to the shop where it sits now. Hopefully will have an answer by this weekend and be back in the wind. Have a feeling a sensor is reading incorrectly and telling the ECM that it's running low temps but I don't know for sure. Pisses me off that Harley didn't even try to resolve the issue. I'll keep you guys posted.

Thanks!

So I took my bike to Bargers in Canoga Park who told me it was a bad high pressure fuel line then took my tank apart and told me "no that's not it"! To top it off they told me to remove the Fuel Pak when I get home and ride the bike until my next service which is 2000 miles. Running a bike with a Stage 1 and aftermarket pipes for 2000 and it won't cause any damage huh? Bullshit!

Took it to Motorcycle Michaels in Torrance who replaced the map sensor and charged me $200 for work that should have been done under warranty if Van Nuys had actually checked my bike before. The repair lasted a week, then back to the same problem of stalling out.

Finally Van Nuys took the bike for 2 days now and said there was a bad map sensor connection and a bad crank positioning sensor. How can they tell me they checked my bike before and found nothing wrong when it has this type of problems? Answer: they didn't check it and it cost me $200 for their lack of effort and failure to perform under the warranty terms.

I'll pick it up tomorrow and keep ya posted how long it runs this time.......I'm honestly hating this bike! $20,000 for crap!!
