I'm putting a chrome swing arm on my 08 Deluxe - I was disappointed to find that the frame is not chromed ?
I know that there are chrome inserts available - which look ok..
As you can see the picture embedded in this post.. it appears the frame adjunct to the swing arm is chromed - can someone help me understand how this was done ?
Frames and swingarms dont come chrome, you are looking atcovers. Keep in mind when you buy a brand new Harley just think of it as a blank canvas, what you do to it will make it your own.
the only parts of the frame I can see are under the bike and infront of the motor. both are black and not chrome. I am not even sure the swingarm is chrome. It looks like covers on it.
Personally I don't prefer the chrome swingarms or the covers. I think the chrome swingarm doesn't look right on the black frame. However, there are guys on here who have done it, and are very happy. But, in my opinion, I would leave the swingarm and frame black (no covers) and just chrome everything else around it.
Yeah, I agree with you WARG. To me, it makes the swing arm look like the separate part that it is. Whenall's black, the bike appears to have one continuous frame. Whichis the whole point of the Softail in the first place - to look like a Hardtail. To each his / her own though.
I kicked around the idea of covers, but I was concerned with moisture getting trapped between the cover and the black painted frame causing rust. []
Just a quick question - the actual chrome swing arm in the parts catalog -as opposed tothe pivot point section - is it a cover? I thought it was a metal frame like the stock one, that had been chrome plated instead of painted black. No? [sm=confused06.gif]
Most of the Wife's Deluxe has chrome covers on it. Swingarm, front down tubes etc.. No problems at all. Several have been on for 2 years and when I removed them this past winter to paint the bike, no rust issues at all. Water will not stay under the cover.
Kuryakan makes some of the better covers, I have gotten some from H-D, but in my opinion, the chrome is not as good as Kuryakan's.
I prefer the real deal, an actual chrome swingarm. If you want the actual look of a chrome frame, you can always buy additional covers from Kurakyn such as:Neck Cover, Down Tubes, Mid-Frame Cover(H-D also makes the same part no. 47244-05). Or you can buy the chrome swingarm cover kit from Kurkayn and use a Harley rear axle cover. Sometimes with these cover kits you can have gapsbetween the swingarm andthe covers and may not look right.
On a side note, has anyone noticed that Harley is making some of the same parts as Kuryakyn?
