Guys I have the stock solid rear wheel on my Train...the only thing I've used on it was some clearcoat safe wheel cleaner and a soft brush when its really dirty...it looks dull and surface scratched...I don't think its scratched from the brush or sponge and it hasn't "yellowed", its just dull looking....any suggestions on a polish or cleaner? I know there are some MOTHERS products out there but they can take the finish off too I don't want to make matters worse. Any suggestions?
I use meguiars NXT all metal polish. 26.000mi and no problems so far. Many friends have suggested it and also say it's better than mothers but opinion's are like.....It's your bike and your call. Check out the detail section for idea's too.
I used a wheel cleaner once that left white filmy streaks. I used a chrome polish(possibly mothers) and the mini ball with extension to lightly buff mine. gets in there easily.
Unless your smoothie wheel is different from the one on my '08 Train, it's not clear coated. It won't yellow, and you can use metal polish on it. The best stuff I've found to use is Simichrome - a little bit goes a long way. You can find it online or at BMW motorcycle shops. Mothers Billet Polish is good too, but not as effective as Simichrome.
Like they said polish it up with whatever you like. But get rid of the stock brake pads. They are biggest contributors to the dirt problems. Lyndel Z pads work better and leave no dust behind to screw up your clean and polish job.
Those that are mentioned are good, but, I've tried almost everything on the market and the best I have found is Wenol. There are two versions, blue and red. Blue is what you use first, then use the red for final polish. I've owned a number of show cars with all sorts of billet aluminum and this stuff is amazing. You can even use it to make your clutch and brake levers look almost like chrome. It's a little harder to find, but, worth the effort.
