I would like to get cams for my crossbones but I honestly dont have a clue what kind to get and how much they will cost me. I cant afford to spend a whole lot on the bike, but I would like to have the potato sound that is synonomis with Harleys. Ive been told that new cams will get that sound, as well as a little performance. Can anyone recommend a good cam that isnt too expensive but will give me the sound im looking for as well as a little performance?
Swing over to the Engine/Trans section of the forum...Lots of great info there....
Cams, running in and around the $300.00 mark.. What I don't know is what cams you can move to without other upgrades bore, etc.?? Shop around, you can get a good deal on cams at less $$ for sure.
Alot of imput from the forum for sure. Also, not sure if aftermarket cams,(andrews Cams-which maybe better than SE CAMS, would void your warranty??
Download the Screamin eagle catalog from harleydavidson.com, and they have a listing of all the cams page 58 - 59. And whats compatable.
I think you may be limited to SE cams due to the warranty.
Also, I don't think your're going to get the potato, potato sound from a EFI TC motor. I have a carced TC88 with hot cams and although it hits a noce lick you can dance to, it doesn't sound like the old pan heads.

Alot of that potato potato sound is related to idle speed. TCs idle at about 1100 rpm.....drop it much lower than that to get the lopy sound you are lookin for, and you risk starving the engine of oil.
I can't tell you what will work best for you, nor can anyone else. However, I changed my TC88 EFI to SE203 cams. it has a lop at idle, great sound & an improvement across my riding band, low & mid RPMS. As for starving the engine of oil,....I don't think so! Do you thiong EFI bikes had a different oil pump than carbed bikes........... NOT!
