Purchased my Softail Custom 08 about 2 months ago and paid state taxes.... and now the state of Virginia is here to collect another $380 for my yearly personal property tax... Gotta love it... Now all I need a state rebate check to match my federal rebate check...
Sorry was opening my mail while on this forum and needed to vent... There goes my new headlights... :-(

That's why I no longer live in Virginia

I am just about sick to death of taxes going up and up and up! Where will it end? Sad that we give so much power to our government only to have them bleed us to death. I am fortunate enough (if you can call it that) to be in the 33% bracket...the very highest. I am debt-free, so I have no deductions. Eight years ago, Dubya gave us a 6% decrease in taxes, which made him my new best friend. What most people don't know is that it's only a temporary tax cut and it expires in 2010. My biggest fear now is that the Dems will get in office and let the tax break expire....and then raise it even higher....as if 39% wasn't high enough to begin with. Before anyone says I have nothing to complain about, I have to say that, yes, I am very comfortable and very thankful for it. What I object to is that my two employees pay around 10% while I pay nearly 3-1/2 times that amount. How is the world is that fair? If they raise the tax rate into the 40-plus percentile, I will hang it up and my two employees will be out of a job. What a wonderful country we live in.

And you know it's taxation without representation.

Personal property tax, am I reading this right? you get taxed on your car, bike, boat and stuff like that. This is the most retarded thing I have ever heard. When I first read the post I thought you meant property tax like on your house paid to the county you live in. I saw $380 for property tax and thought what a deal, my homes property tax is $3800. But a tax on your vehicles, I would move. That is absurd!

Yes, Virginia did change the law a couple of years ago to pro-rate the personal property tax
ORIGINAL:RockerMike

I live in Virginia also. Below are my 6 month personal property taxes:

Car - $825.30
Truck - 83.84
Sporty - 77.75
Rocker - 120.19

Total 6 month personal property tax - $1,107.08 and I get to do it all over again in Dec. Something seriously wrong here.
If the $380 is pro-rated, I'm going to **** bricks when I see December's bill. There goes my204 cams... :-(

Taxes going down!!
some good news after all

NH doesn't have sales tax or income tax,
but does have a room & board tax for motel, hotel
and meals tax,on road fuel tax, liquorand tobacco tax
andthere is a tax for land and any buildings, State, County and City/Town
The annual registration for Road Vehicals, Trailers, Boats, ATVs &Snowmobilesare expensive, at least I think so

my small fleet of a truck (2005 GMC 2500HD 4X4Diesel), car (2007 Volvo XC70 awd), 2 Harleys (1997 FLSTS & 2003 Ultra)and 3 trailers (6X12 enclosed, 5X8 dump & MC Camper) cost about $1,000.00 annually for registration withTown & State fees
The 3 br Ranch home on an acre has a tax of about $2,000.00 annually
(city life taxes are awhole lot more)

Income and sales taxes are in every state surounding NH
so revenue from out of state folks is high here, that helps I guess

We have to pay both sales tax and property tax here in SC. On the bright side , the sales tax is capped at $300 and, they redefined the definition of "motor vehicle" to include motorcycles in 2006. The means that my property tax bill dropped from $475 in 2006...to $225 in 2007.

I heard that if you don't come up with a figure for your personal property tax to be based on, Virginia will assign you a figure with the Tax bill attatched.

Is there a State Income Tax as well?
How about County and or City/Town Income Tax?
Sales Tax too I guess?

I don't like being Taxed, but jail isn't very high on my list either! lol

good luck

Income Tax: Yep
