just wondering if anyone knows any tricks to keep my gas caps from rattling on my 97 badboy. tryin to save some cash. this is my second set in a year. i dont really want to buy more if i dont have to.
Same on my 96 fatboy.
seems like the metal "cap" is rattling on the plastic screwsystem.
It only comes up when in higher rev's and then it's hard to ignore.
Was thinking of placing a strategic dent somewhere or put somekind of material between metal and plastic to avoid movement.
But hey... what you bitchin about...
If it doesn't rattle or lose oil, it's not a real harley.
I replaced the rattling caps with the pop up style. They don't rattle anymore but they are hard to take off sometimes. It gets aggravating when you're at the gas pump and the caps won't pop up and release. I have to use a rubber jar opener sometimes on them.
I take a pair of waterpump pliers with something to pad the top of the cap and gently crimp the bottom of the cap just enough to tighten them up a little. works great
'99 rattlin' Sporty here too. The plier thingie sounds like a decent try! Not much to loose and a new one shouldn't be much more that $20.00??? I'd like mine to stop too, as I'd rather hear all the noise that the bike makes mechanically.
