I never saw any problem with the foot pegs. I put on some out of the J&P catalog and they are just like all the other pegs as far as I can tell. Kind of a pain taking off the little split rings on the stock pins, but not too hard or time consuming. I changed out both the driver and passenger pegs.
The standard pegs are set back a little (where the peg connects there is a bend) and the added scrape peg. They were designed as such so they would contact the ground prior to the frame. If you use other pegs the may not be the first thing to hit.
That being said, I put HD Skull pegs on and haven't had a problem.
