Well, here's my 2 cents worth...I have a 3/4 HJC helmet that I thought fit me well but it wanted to lift off my head too. Now i wear a do-rag and it stays much closer. Give it a try, might work out for you.
I have a HARLEY DAVIDSON half helmet that fits great, however it is my second one. The first HARLEY DAVIDSON helmet that I bought, I just picked out myself and it was too big and felt like it was going rip my head off at high speeds, so I bought another helmet and had the lady help me fit it to my head and it works awesome.
I have a half and it has a visor the tilts the helmet down. I solved the flapping chin strap by having Velcro sewed on it and now i just stick it. I have pictures if anyone wants to pm me their email address.
After I bought my Sporty last summer, I bought a full face HD flip-up and really like it. Helps tremendously in the winter months too. I just bought a HD 1/2 helmet on clearance and it lifts like a ****. It is the correct fit for sure, but only wearing it VERY tightly strapped, it does usually stay put. Above 55mph, it want to start to fly a bit. The under-the- windshield updraft is the biggest culpret.
Buy a windshield. It won't matter what helmet you wear.
FAT BOY BEAT ME TOO IT... the windshield will push the air over the helmet so you wont feel like your neck is snapping off. also, you may need a smaller helmet. you should not have to tighten it so much your jaw hurts. if you are wearing a large try a med, or if you are in a med try a small, but consider a windshield it will help.
I wear the Shoei RJ-Platinum 3/4 helmet. Very comfortable and it doesn't paracute off my head. I also like having my ears covered because it cuts back on the wind noise so I don't have to wear ear plugs.
Thanks for all the advice guys. I think I might stick with my full face. It's just more comfortable to ride with it. It blocks out a lot of the wind noise and keeps crap from hitting my face. Seems like with the open face I get pelted a lot with sand and other things getting kicked up from cars in front of me. Plus I just feel more safe with the full face.I had bought the open face to just ride locally and planned to keep the full face for longer trips. But I can't even do local rides with the open face without the strap hurting me. Maybe I'll look into a 3/4 or something. Thx for the helmet suggestions.
