Default headlight plug

i am new to harleys, but got my first bike a couple months ago, its a 96 springer, the question i have is i went for a ride today and the low beam wouldnt work,it had before today, the high beam does, so i take the headlight apart and the plug is burnt on one side, maybe some water got in some how when i washed it, nutcan i get another plug at a auto parts store like napa or does it have to come from harley i have searched the forums and couldnt find anything on this, thanks in advance

As Harley rarely changes things like light plugs the odds are that its a common H4 bulb socket. At least it is on my 07. If you already have the thing apart you know what it looks like, so I would either get the bulb number (probably an H4) or take the bulb to the local auto parts store to see if they have the right plug. Unless your going to pull the tank off to get at the headlight plug under it. Your going to have to cut the wires and re-solder the new plug on. If your not very good at soldering wires see if you have a friend who is and invite him over for a beer. Then get him to do it for you. The reason I say to have it done is that if you don't the connection may add resistance to the circuit and start heating up. Eventually it will fail from the repeated heating and cooling.
Once you have the new one installed, see if you can get some dielectric grease on the bulb pins and into the socket. That will prevent water from damaging it again.

If you look at the top of the page there is a pinned thread called DIY. Look in there for a posting on how to solder the wires, waterproof, andinsulate the connection properly.

local auto parts store for H-4. Just came back on that mission @ Pep Boys. Advanced auto has it. Here is the deal. Put a VOM on volts. Black to ground. Turn on lights and hit the low beam. One of the two wires have power. Black is ground. I believe it is yellow for low but I could be wrong. If it does not work put the probe in the remaining wire. If it does not work look next in the handle bar switch. VOM it again. You have power (orange & white) going up or your high beams would not work. One of two, Let your VOM be your guide on this. You will than know the answer to your own question first! Need help just call the # below toll free. I live in EST.
