I went by the manual...sounds like someone at the dealer didn't read the manual....I just tried to vary speed during the first 500 or so...I didn't push it above 75 however during that first 500. vehicle engines of today (2 and 4 wheel) are made with much better tolarances, therefore that "old school" break-in time and procedures don't apply so much.. my 2c

Whatever you do, dont hit 51MPH. It will self destruct.

Seriously, drive it normally and vary the speed for the first 500 or 1000 miles. No sustained speeds.
You wont break it.

As stated, don't lug the engine. That's why they tell you to stay out of 6th. As always, remember you're breaking the bike in, not just the engine. A hard decel helps new rings, but is harder on the primary tensioner.....it's too much to worry about so like everyone else said, ride normal. At 200 miles, 3/4 throttle bursts aren't gonna hurt a thing. Just check the drivebelt, clutch cable, throttle cables, etc. from time to time. I clicked 6th gear and hit 80 at about 475 miles. It just takes to long to get anywhere going 65.

ride it hard. Use the gears to pull the motor down so you load the rings. I have never understood the BS the dealers tell people about breaking in motors. Look at how race motors are broken in. Hard and under load. My buddy worked at the GM proving grounds. They broke in all new test cars hard. If it breaks I want it to brake under warrentee.

I agree 100%. Keep it cool as possible, and work it hard without lugging and redlining it. Best engine you will ever have. If it breaks, it was no fn good to start with. The book will work, but will prolong the breakin to rediculous miles and if you baby it too much it can actually botch the break in cycle. It will polish off the peaks to the point that it won't grind the rings down to seat. Been there done that on other engines. Rehone, new rings and start over. Never had a problem with high load breakin. Let's face it, most people don't even know the signs of an engine that has successfully seated the rings.

Seems to me that you can't hurt anything by taking it easy, varying speeds, for the first 500 miles. Why take a chance with your $15K+ bike?

When I picked up my 07, my buddies came and told me to follow and keep up. 1st day 250 miles running hard on freways, cooks corner and trough beach towns. I have always broken in a MC fast and hard. For the rest of the break in I jusr road to work on the freeays. She still runs like a champ and just had her dyno tuned today. The mech said she runs great, no problems, but I do recomend that you check your various bolts every few hundered miles until broke in. The service manual is better than that little book they give ya when you pick it up.
