My problem is pain in my neck... I get a sharp pain in my neck when I am riding on my 95 FLSTC for more than like lets say 80 miles or so. Its hard to turn my head to the left because of the pain. I have the stock handlebars. Now my question is, is it me being a wuss or is it my handlebars. Anyone else have this problem or had this problem and know how to fix it????
I have/had the same problem on my Nightrain; I changes my risers and that helped somewhat. But I found that the more I ride, the less I notice the pain.
well im only 27 so I dont believe its either of those
Well then if it's not old age or degenerative disc condition, by process of elimination, we've narrowed it down to either the handlebars, or you're a wuss...
your a wuss, you need to do some neck exercises in the mornings when you wake up. Your neck muscles are weak, causes a sharp pain on one side of the base of your neck just below your collarbone.
do some neck rotations, shoulder rolls, stretching, and build your shoulders and traps up, lift some weights.
lastly change the position of your arms when riding. The same thing happened to me when I was in early 20's. I ran alot check and back was in good shape but my neck and shoulders were small and I started having lots of neck pain. Doc told me I needed to workout correctly.
You're probably making yourself reach too far, drop them back toward you more. And Mike said the most constructive thing...if it's hurting you THAT bad have it looked at first.
Splinter, you need to have yourself evaluated properly as there are too many variables to consider here. At 27 you shouldn't have significant neck pain from riding your bike. Could be neck instability due to insufficient muscle strength, your bars, your posture, an underlying problem with your neck itself, etc. etc. Too hard to say over the net.
