Let me preface by saying I am BRAND SPANKING new to the world of Harleys....experienced the ride for the first time this past weekend. DH rented one for the long holiday weekend and I am hooked! Smartest move he ever made because we were at the dealer today and financing has been secured....now is the tough part-making the decision. Aesthetically, I LOVE the 08 Night Train: red denim w/rhinehart pipes. I liked the high seat back, too, but the seat isn't very padded. The Custom is black (blah) and I like the look of the mini ape hangers. The seat is more comfy, but I don't like the lower back rest. DH says the choice is mine, as he will be thrilled with either (though he prefers the ape hangers to the drive bar-"feels" better to him). Price is about the same ~$18K for the NT w/the pipes and ~$17K for the Custom, no pipes. Any wisdom to impart as I attempt to decide based on my 3 days of riding experience (on a very uncomfortable V-Rod)? THANKS!
Mostly local day rides.......a few road trips perhaps. Most rides will be 1 up, w/me , so I'm wondering if the Custom might be the way to go, but I really love the Night Train....it's so bad *** looking!
Quick don't think about the answer just answer... Do you like black or chrome? If you said black by the train if you said chrome by the custom. I'd say buy the train but I'm bias there isonly one color for me black. Either way congrats the bikes the cheap part the mods cost the money
I like the black, but he likes the chrome! But it's really the denim finish I prefer, I think...Is one going to be significantly more comfortable either to drive or to ride? The dealer said resale on the denim finish NT will be lower than on the shiny Custom...that surprised me....you all agree?
If you are concerned about resale value, please don't. What do you think as far as the comfort between the two.
I ride a Fatboy, but I also have a friend who lets me ride his NT. He has drag bars and you feel stretched out on it.
The same friend has a Springer Softail custom. I like the way the custom rides. Little more comfortable.
It's your choice, both great bikes, but if you do decide on the NT, you will definately be part of a crowd which has a very big and proud presence here on the forum.
The ride will be the same cause they are both softails, the trick is finding a bike and then making it fit you and your riding style. Like somebody said before the cheap part is buying the bike everything else is the arm and leg
Both are real nice bikes, I went with the custom. I love it . Rides great, my buddy has a nt and i realey like it all so. It boils down to what you like. Good luck and ride safe.
