Default Pulley question

Hey guys, I have a 1994 Fatboy. Has a metzler 140 on it now. I want to go wider. I have been told it would require a narrower pulley. Stock is 1 1/2 wide. I also need a new belt too. How strong is the new 20 mm belt? I know that they are using it on the new 96 inch bikes. I want to go with a 113 inch ultima down the road and don't want to trash the belt. Do you think the 20mm belt will hold up against a 113. I could go with the 1 1/8 belt but that won't let me go as wide on the tire. What is the limiting factor on tire width without changing the swingarm and fender. My rear tire is perfectly centered in the fender. Thanks, SnailTraX

Default RE: Pulley question

How wide do you want to go?
Without taking rim width into consideration, going from 1 1/2" to 1 1/8" would allow a 3/4" wider or 19mm wider tire.
So, going from 140 to 160 would provide about the same clearance.
Going to the 20mm belt would allow you to go as wide as 178mm and have the same clearance.
There are wide tire kits out there the allow a 200mm or wider tire, but it more than changing sprockets and belts.
You might be able to push the primary out further and alow a wider tire, but this (if possible) is expensive and a lot of work.
Here are a couple of links.
These allow up to 240-300mm tires

Default RE: Pulley question

Snailtrax, I have a 99 softail. I just put a 20mm belt on with a 180 metzeler and 18 X 5.5 wheel using the stock swing arm. 200mm tire won’t work. Had to change the pulley to a 70 tooth for everything to fit. It’s tight but nothing rubs. Not sure if this helps.
