I recently put on new Reinhart Pipes and a Screaming Eagle Air Filter on my 08 Custom. \\; The dealer is telling me I need to do the tuner but the bike seems to run fine without it. \\; Do you really think I need it? \\; They say it will run to lean and overheat and shut down. Any help would be great.
Yes you do need it. You are increasing your air intake and exhaust output. Therefore you need to adjust your fuel map. Your bike will run lean without it and you will not be getting the optimal performance \\;to match \\;your upgrades. There are a few options out there to do this. Do some research on the Power Commander and the SERT and decide which best fits \\;you. There is abundant information on these forums. \\;You will notice the difference in performance and it is better for your bike in the long run.
Do it.... You will be happy. \\; I got the SERT and Dyno Tune. \\; I just got mine back yesterday. \\; I got 5 more HP and 5 more lbs of torque from the Dyno Tune alone. \\; It runs much cooler and the throttle response is far better.
Do you need it, maybe. Will it run better with a SERT, PClll , Fuelpak and a dyno tune, yes.
 \\;
If you go back to Sept 07 American Iron , there is an article in the Tech section with info from Dr Dyno about the need to re map newer HDs for a AC and pipe change and they atated that about 50% of the stock bikes dont have to be remaped with a tuner to run OK.
 \\;
All of the new bikes run lean so it will run better with a tuner device that will richen it up.
 \\;
My bike and all of my friends are running either SERT or Fuel Paks and they all run better than stock, cooler, less or no decel popping and sometimes better MPG.
i thought mine was running fine too after putting pipes and filter. Then i bought a power commander and i found out what running good really means. i think \\;a tuner \\;whatever brand is \\;definately worth the money.
