my first ride
Well it was an awesome feeling but turned out to be a bad day.Got my train home friday night and stared at it half the night and then finally went to bed with visions of sun and wind in my face and couldnt wait til saturday morn got here.Woke up the next morn at 7 and went out and got my leathers on and fired the girl up and I was in heaven,,backed her out of the garage and set out on my first of many journeys.Well about 2 hours later I come back home froze stiff with a big ole grin on my face and pulled her back in the garage.Come inside and called my buddies to brag about what a bike it is etc etc etc.Well about 2 hrs later I got her back out and me and a buddy set off for town,We made it about 6 miles and she started to sputter a little bit and then she let out a huge backfire and I completley lost the front cylinder. Now keep in mind that all of this happens with less than 40 miles on the bike,so I pull into a sheetz gas station here and my home town and call the harley shop that I bought the bike from and the service manager tells me that I filed a plug to take the bike home and come down and they will give me 2 sets of plugs,,so I drive the bike home 6 miles on one cylinder and go get the plugs and come back home and put the new ones in and nothing,,Well by then the shop was closed so I had to wait till sunday morning. So I just get up sunday morning and drive down to the shop and blow my stack, and they come up and pick the bike up and take it back down for me,,I get a phone call sunday afternoon and the mechanic says he found the problem and says its the power commander and they will have to order another one and put it in and I should be back on the road by thursday,,Well monday its turns out to be sunny and in the upper 40's and Im dying to have my bike but the day goes by and I get up today and go to work to another beautiful sunny day in the mid 40's and around lunch time I call to check on my scooter and the service manager tells me that actually the bike is done,so I rush home and get my gear and head off to the shop to pick her up,I get there and they tell me that what had happened was,4 of the wires came loose on the power commander and fell into the belt drive and it cut the one to the front fuel injector,So I gear up and jump on my scooter and head out into the wind and run about 45 miles or so to home and everything is running fine and it was a great ride.So hopefully this was just a freak of nature thing and I dont have to see that shop again for a while,Im actually up to 80 miles on the odometer now and plan on riding both saturday and sunday this weekend!!!!!!!!!
why a power commander without any other modes.....???? My fatboy is a carb model with screaming eagle air box .carb rejet. and vance and hinds long guns...never a problem.... i am glad your back on the road..who installed the power commander? the dealer? I don' think I would return except for the first service...ride on jim
One would have thought our bikes go through a quality inspection and test to catch such things .. the Motor Company has been making these things for some time. I am sure glad it worked out but what a bummer to start off on your new ride. If I were you, I would send the factory your note!

I also have v&h big shot staggereds and screaming eagle stage 1 kit,,as for the prob it was all covered under warranty so atleast it didnt cost me anything other than the down time!!The dealer installed everything before I picked it up but the more time I spend there the more im beginning to think the service manager doesnt know his **** from a hole in the ground.
Glad to hear that you got your ride fixed so that you can use it. It seems that sometimes that things like that happen. Sometimes there seems to be a few bugs that have to be worked out before you can fully enjoy your new toy. It will get better, trust me.

yea, like Springer said, sometimes there are the occ. bugs that have to be dealt with (really sucks, but what can you do?) Glad they were able to get you up & running quickly, and hopfully the last "bug".
