I'm having great difficulty removing my Fatboy standard mufflers on my 07 bike. (to replace with rush slip ons) Have removed all bolts retaining the mufflers to the mounting bracket and taken off the heatshields, full loosened the clamp at the point where they join the header pipe. Starting with the top muffler it's still absolutely rock solid ! \\; Have tried it with the bike warm and the bike cold - no joy. Only done 2k miles so shouldn't of thought it would be this difficult to get off ???? \\; Any ideas anyone ! Thanks. Jon
gettin those suckers off can be tuff! grab the very end of the muffler with both hands and wiggle it as you pull straight back. it will eventually let go. when you slide the new ones on try to have the holes for the mounting brackets lined up pretty close because movin it isnt gonna be easy either.
yep, exactly what mke125 said....you're just gonna have to work at it a bit to get it off. \\; For me, sliding the new Rush mufflers on wasn't a problem though......
When I replaced my stocks with D&D's...it was a serious BYATCH gettin those stock ones off. Pull, wiggle, pull,wiggle...rest....pull, wiggle, pull, wiggle....rest.....it took me 30 minutes of very hard work to get the dang things off. 10 minutes later the D&D's were on and torqued.
 \\;Spray a little WD-40 in the slots on the muffler. Wait a few minutes (5) and use a strap wrench around the muffler body and turn it like an oil filter to more or less unscrew it from the pipe. Take a piece of very fine sand paper and clean the end of the pipe before reinstalling new slip-ons. My RK had the same problem and this worked great.
LOL,
 \\;
It is a bitch isnt it?
 \\;
I got the bottom one off, and couldnt get the top one. Put it all back together. Deep breath and about 2 weeks later went after it again.
 \\;
Its tough but they will come off. \\; Wiggle, wiggle. It helps to have someone hold the head pipes so they dont move around.
Its worth it when your done though.
Good luck.

very easy. remove the 4 small bolts and the heat shields. loosen the 2 large clamps and leave the rest alone. spray the clamp slots on the muffler with rust eaters or other type spray. Then the trick is start the bike and use a towel to wiggle them and they will come off. The pipe heats before the muffler and they come off easy.
