i have a question for everybody out there, in the new 6 speed how do you use 6th gear? i have spoken to different dealership people at different dealerships and have heard different opinions, from not using it at all or mainly on interstate driving, sometimes when i am running about 60 i put it in sixth but then the engine makes me feel like i have to downshift right away, i put a 103 kit in it and run about 3000 at 60mph. any advice
What i was told and it seems to be right along with some of my other friends bought from other dealers, is that basically over 65-70 should go into 6th gear...and its not a power gear to pass someone rather than a cruiser gear, so if needed to pass and accelerate past someone, drop back down into 5th then push the throttle..Which kind of makes sense, cause that is what people without 6th gear have to do..
hi, i have a \\;2007 fxstc uk model with standard 96inch motor and i run at 70mph at 2800rpm yourn seems to be at way to high rpms,are you sure your in 6th.i also change to 6th at 60mph but the motor pulls strong at this speed,cheers tom.uk.

hi, i have a \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;2007 fxstc uk model with standard 96inch motor and i run at 70mph at 2800rpm yourn seems to be at way to high rpms,are you sure your in 6th.i also change to 6th at 60mph but the motor pulls strong at this speed,cheers tom.uk.
My 2007 FXSTC is a USA version and any speed over 55 MPH and I'm in 6th, \\;\\\\\\;1 or 2 up doesn't seem to matter. Bone stock 96 incher, still pulls hard at that speed and up. No strange noises, pings...nothing but net! Only run 93 octane fuel in it.
i allso have a 07 FXSTC with a 103 and a 6 speed. before i had the motor work done o would not hit 6 till 70. now after the motor work i made sure that i put a cam in that put out some good TQ and now i can cruse at 55 to 60 in 6 but i dont use that gear at thouse speeds to pass. i will drop 1 or 2 gears depending on how fast i want to pass. and when i am at 55 to 60 the motor does not make any noise other then the norm. i could not be happier. as a matter of fact i can cruse at 80 mph at 3200 rpm to give u a little of a base line as well. and that is in 6th gear
I shift into 5th at 95 to 100k (55-60mph) and into 6th at 115 to 120 (70-75mph). Anything \\; less and she feels like she's lugging. I don't have any problems passing in 6th, if I do gear down it usually because I've had to slow down for the slower traffic anyway.
That's with a stock 96 with the Stage one and BBS pipes.
as long as you run at least 2500 rpm in higher gears and 2000 rpm on first and second and maybe third gear \\;your fine.
 \\;
You shouldn't be lugging at those speeds.
