I have the V&H Longshots and just added the Thunder Monster "baffles". It was loud before but now it is "Barry White" loud. It is a much deeper sound than before and it sounds much better when you are decellerating. It does feel like you pick up some performance (they say up to 10HP) but seat of the pants isn't much of a dyno.
Looking on the Branch Head web sight, they do a test with heads, cam and exhaust. Branch likes the Python
Be carefull with the purchase. Alot of pipes blue very easy. Look for full radius heat shields like the Big Shots
I had the Screaming Eagle slip on and they were ok but I purchased Screaming Eagles new 2 into 2 with
a cross over section for torque. This pipe was $$ but it has more punch and it sounds good without loosing
your hearing. Good Luck.
I'm in the same boat as you. Currently on my 02 FB I have the Screaming Eagle II slip on's but want to step it up a bit. After reseaching I've narrowed it down to Samson Big Gun Mid-drifters or V & H Big Shot Staggered. A tech person at VH let me know the new design on the BS Staggered and Longs have a pwr. chamber design and tip to tip heat shields which sounds appealing. The Side Shots have the pwr. chamber too.
On the Samson you buy the heat shields separately and they are 2 or 3 piece I believe. My bike is pretty darn stock so I'm worried about losing low end but time will tell.
Another option is to take the stock pipes on the bike and have your dealer core out the baffle. Sounds very similar to the v&h longshots, in my opinion. I heard both side by side. I am not an expert so dont crazy on me if you disagree. The dealer told me they are getting better numbers out of coring stock pipes than that of the v&h. The lack of back pressure with the v&h doesnt allow them to produce the same power gains as the stock pipes cored out.
Again Im no expert I could have been lied too. This is what I was told, the cored stock pipes do sound pretty good. As for me I went with SEII's cant stand that stock tapered look.
Good Luck

Hey BigD,
I have a 04 heritage and I've put v&h straights shots on first. Sound good at idle and low rpm, then blah mid to upper. I now have v&h side shots (no baffles). Again, sound loud and great at idle and pretty good thru rpm range. I wish I would have just listen to my buddy and put the long shots on. They sound great onn any bike at any rpm range. All are great looking pipes. Went with the side shots so you could see more of my PM wheels. I got them thru www.gopartsdirect.com and save about $100 bucks from anyone else. Good sight. Hope that helped.
